Default Strippers and Lap Times

For those of you with Strippers, can you quantify the effect of weight loss on lap times? Assume a stock, 3200 LB 996 GT3 turns a 2:00 lap. What kind of lap time can you expect from a 2800 LB 996 GT3, assuming identical tires? I think the rule of thumb is about one second for every 100 LB weight loss, but your input is appreciated.

can't quantify
I dropped 5 seconds I think
but most ppl when stripping would run flicks, different suspension etc ryc
so very hard to get comparison. also lwt car feels different and easier to drive

Very interesting topic if you think about the efficiency of stripping a car...

But I assume that most people do it because they have always dreamed to have a stripped car and not really to go faster.
...
unless you are racing, and want extra safety and also easier access to the car.

It is a pain to remove, then it is a pain to store all the parts and even worse to put back in when you sell. And you know you need to put it back because the price of a stripped car is much less.

disclaimer... I always wanted a stripper but can't justify it...yet

Default Time will tell

Stripper was new to me last year and I have yet to fully find out. Bought the car stripped so can't tell you the difference except that it's amazingly fun to drive, fast, and really just learning the car.

This year will be much more revealing.

oh, if u can still put things bk when u want up sell, u haven't stripped. when I mean strip I mean strip like a cup car. my stripper has headlight no ac no fan no interior only 1/2 wiring harness left, no window, welded in cage, cf doors,

unless ur limited by classing rules, anything short of above is a waste if time. u won't lose that much wt.

except rad and slow911's cars. they still have int but big wt reduction. however they have no cage. I'm at 2750lbs with full cafe. no cage I think 2600-2650.

figure out what u really want. don't just strip.

Thanks for all the replies. I would not strip an existing car. I want to buy one that is already stripped. The more I think about it, a dedicated track car makes sense. The only thing I want to avoid is trailering the car, so it would have to remain street legal.

John, thank you. I should have used the search function for the entire forum instead of just the 996 GT3/GT2 forum

Rad's data, plus others seem to support the theory of about a second per 100 LBS on a 2 minute lap.

Why? You can tow with the Cayenne.

In My Humble, if you want to experience the feeling of a cup, wouldn't it make more sense to go full out? And if you're there, wouldn't it also make more sense to get an actual cup?

a fully stripped dedicated track car is still street legal. my even has full weld in cage and CF doors, it's still street legal. but if some one hit me on street, i probably die.

at any rate, it's miserable driving it.
loud
no ac
no heat
no window
no sound insulation

You make a couple of great points. I like the idea of driving to the track and back. For me, due to limited free time, I just do not want the hassle of a trailer. Now, in a few years, I can see myself in a Cup, when I have more free time.

Funny. I know that you are supposed to wear a helmet with the full cage, but that would look ridiculous on the street. Your cars weighs about 2750 LBS without gas (but with all the other fluids), correct?

Depends on the average speed of the track. The higher the speed, the less difference weight savings will make.

For street driving avoid full roll cage, because this is a great danger in case of crash without a helmet.
If your head would be to hit the rollbar without helmet, you are in for severe head injuries/death.
