Bummer indeed. Have u looked into buying a used tranny particularly from a totaled car? Maybe cheaper then rebuilding or even locating a cup tranny($$$ though but man that would rock on track). Mike

Sorry for your pain. I hope they get in there and find it's not as bad as they thought.

Have u looked at Brian copans rebuilding the tranny? I don't know much bout gbox- only guard and copans. Neway u got options to make the tranny very condusive for track. Mike

20K miles on tranny. G Box has already torn it down and is telling me $10K.
The initial intent was simply LSD and 1st gear syncro, est was $4K...

I am bummed!!!

What LSD have has gbox recommended? IMO if my box needed rebuilding I be doing gear ratios and all since its opened up and all. It's too bad it's happened but if it needs to be rebuilt I rebuild for durability and "oh god it's great on the track" rebuild. Mike

if it's 10k, it's better just to buy another gear box.
my was sold for $4000 or so, the gearbox with dead LSD.

10k sounds a lot, im with Mooty on this.

besides a new "1-2" and a LSD should be less.

Better include a cup car input shaft and a few new gear sets at that price point!

For significantly less than that with Copans I had my ENTIRE gearbox re-geared with Cup gears and had the LSD replaced with the Cup unit. Sounds very high.

Mercy. Hope you can at least explore some options now that G-Box has torn it down. If they are a professional shop, they should understand your concerns.

If you want a second opinion I can provide local references where you can take your box. The first one that comes to mind is Steve Rowe. He used to service 3Rs GA and World Challenge cars when they were campaigning 996 Cups. He's in Englewood. The second would be Chris Cervelli, who is also well know around these parts. He's in Arvada.

Either way a $10k ticket on a 20k mi box, even if those are 100% track miles sounds astronomical. I'd be interested in seeing an itemized estimate. If you haven't been offered one, you should ask for one. Any reputible shop would provide one.

$4k vs $10k is quite a difference and they should be explaining more to you about "why".
