Default Brake reservoir cap not on tight after bleeding brakes

Well, after many bleeds the cap doesn't fit tightly on the reservoir any longer. If you turn it enough it will "click" and loosen a bit - like it jumped a thread. My guess is that the bleeder screw cap has slowly over time warped the reservoir threads a bit.

Question is, how tight does it really have to be? And can I rig it somehow or do I need a new cap or even a reservoir?

Sorry I don't have a solution, but a similar problem. My cap is tight, but post auto-x, there's always some seepage around the cap area, and the fluid is RIGHT at the max fill line. I could have the same plastic threads issue you do...

I use a rag and ziptie around it. It seems to leak on trackdays ie hard on brakes. Mike

For track use it is best to keep the brake fluid level well below the maximum level mark. I think the ABS activating can cause some disturbance in the fluid in the resevoir, at least it has in some earlier ABS fitted Porsches.

Yes, the shop towel with rubber band has been used on the resevoir of 996 race cars too.

A new cap might help but it is hard to say from your description if the resevoir or cap is damaged.

To echo all, I keep the level down just a touch and use the rag and rubber band method. Works like a champ.
