The problem with the MPSC is while it has great grip, that window is very small. It is very temperamental, highly sensitive to temp, break away without warning at times, cost more than other options, and heat cycle into hockey pucks very quickly. Just not worth it when there are such great options like the NT01.
Thanks.

I was running out of time earlier this year so went for the Cups as a "safe" choice. Based on all the feedback here, I was hoping for the Nittos, but they are an expensive option in Canada.

Now that I have more time, and see that I will need another set "soon", I might try to get a set of NT-01.

Why are Nittos expensive in Canada?

Make sure you can get the 295 AD08s. I think they are on back order. I had to get 285s.

Don't know. For a 315/30-18:

$310/ea at Discount Tire Direct http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...ance&tmn=NT-01 But they are not allowed to ship to Canada

$470/ea at 1010 Tires http://www.1010tires.com/tire.asp?ti...T01&pc=371-000

And to add a bit of frustration, $1 Cdn = $1.02 US at the moment

I don't get it.

Dell, talk to Rad. He can get any tire to fit on any car.

Kal Tire is the distributor. One and only supplier. Easier and cheaper to buy in the US.

Pirelli Corsas are pretty good. About the same life as MPSCs.

If you want cheap and long lasting Toyos may be your only bet.

I've tried everything and I like MPSCs. Nittos just don't have the grip. And I like grip. Corsas a close second.

Trying to resist slick crackpipe.

Dell:

I thought from your report last year at VIR that the 245 Nitto's in the front rubbed, but 235's would be OK? Are you driving the car harder now, causing the 235's to rub?

I talked to my local track tire guru last week and he did say he thought the 235 Nitto's would rub in the front on the 996tt, so he recommended 225 front and 315 rear if I use Nitto's. He also said the Nitto's are asymmetrical so they can't really flip them on the wheel to maximize tread life. As for R888's, he said that Toyo grossly overproduced the rear 315's and as a result the prices are stupid cheap right now - much less than the 235 fronts. So while the 888s aren't "good" for all that long, the price per mile ends up being really good.

I picked up a set of track wheels last week that already have Yoko A048's on them. The rears are in good shape but the fronts probably have just one DE left in them. I'd been thinking of going with the Nitto's after the Yoko's are shot, but that's sad to hear that you are getting rubbing on the 235 Nitto's even with the X73 suspension.

I thought the 235 would be the winner as the 245 was just too big. Well, the 235 is too big as well. I'm thinking that I will go with the 225/315 setup and see what it is like.

Somewhere in this forum is a note from a guy who talked to Nitto and a Nitto engineer said they can be flipped on the wheel. At least in the dry....

IIRC, Rad removed the fender liners to fit some large tires. You can think about doing this too.

Cheers,

Removing fender liners isn't going to happen on this car.

MPSC- just not on track in the rain. A little scary on the ride home ( no trailer) when it's raining. compromise tire. 38lb hot.

Most stick short of slicks from what I've tried.

Pirelli Corsas are better in the rain.
