Jr-- awesome video. Had to watch it three times. : ) Your point is a good one. As far as I know, there is no magic fairy dust that makes a Cup car fast. If you strip weight out of a GT2 and put in an excellent suspension....

I understand that most feel that a turbo is not as responsive as a normally aspirated car but at some point (200hp?) the hp advantage has to become overwhelming. Time will tell but at the end of the day I love a challenge and for better or worse, I will have a unique car that meets my needs of road and track.
And that car ran stock GT2 springs and shocks too. Fully caged, Guard diff, cup R&P, dumped the front wheel drive, GIAC flash, wide body, and a large custom intercooler. The downside is that running RSR wheels and tires (280f, 320r) gets expensive as they don't cycle well under 3100 lbs with all that torque....

Yea they do that race after race, year after year... They're so well matched together. They're 2450lbs w/driver, 225-230rwhp and are both great drivers....

I have firsthand outran 996 3 cups at VIR, Monticello, Thunderbolt, etc... I'm a bit lighter than full street weight, but it IS full carpet still, glass windows, oem fenders etc... Have a RUF 590 kit, regeared though, motorsport LSD, triple adjustables and solid suspension components, the car IS setup well and very fast.....

it can be done, easily, but with the main source.... Competent driver

I WILL SAY THIS THOUGH

It wont be all day long lol... Once the tires and brakes start to wear because of the cars weight, it will be very tough and noticeable lap time wise and while playing tango with a cup.. You'll see how he can steadily keep the pace and speed in areas where you'll start to drop off...

Why not buy a GT3 street/ race car with a title instead of a GT2?
What is the weight of the GT2 ?

9111SLOW, awesome video. I am sure that it is a bloody fast car but that is some serious driver talent. Wow.

iLLM3, the GT2 was just corner balanced. Will ask the shop and get back with its weight asap. Any idea of the weight of a 996 Cup?

SpeedGT3, ultimately I wanted to try and build a car that handled as well as a Cup but made MUCH more hp. My understanding is that it is a very hard thing to do with a GT3 motor.

6-cups weigh about 2600 without driver and 1/8 tank of fuel. I've seen enough of them weighed to have a pretty accurate gauge of them.

What are you looking for when you say "MUCH more Hp". The camera car at Cal Speedway is a 3.8, 996 cup that dyno'd at 425 rwhp. The 7-cup that spun in front of him is a 4.0 motor that dyno'd at 452 rwhp. The 09' RSR dyno's in the 525 range. It becomes all about weight once you reach those levels.....

I don't get it. For sure if set up right a gt2 will beat up on a cupcar. But what u trying to prove? Wouldn't be more fun to having a bigger challenge and get your 6gt3 prepped and relying on pure skill more then hp to offset your skill level. I take it u be driving the gt2 when it's prepped? A seasoned cupcar driver will kill u for sure say a 3 hr enduro. Mike

Interesting perspective... But how about, having the skill to take a less setup, heavier, way more powerful car and keeping it on the track/piloting around faster or just as fast than a properly setup racecar?? It's also a challenge, but a different one... Both require a ton of skill in my eyes.. I'll post up some in car footage, dancing with a car on edge for 30 minutes straight! HP doesn't make you go fast if you don't know how to utilize/handle it...
