Tire Dilemma

Your speedo and your odometer will be off...
The standard tire has a diameter of 25.0" and the 295/35/18 will have a diameter of 26.1".
When you see 60mph on the speedo, you are actually doing almost 63mph.
Also, your gearing is now longer so you have a little less acceleration.
Meanwhile, a 315/30/18 has a 25.4" diameter so it is much closer. That would be my choice.
Just saying.

Wait a sec, you actually look at your speedo? ![hiha](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/roflmao.gif)
As far as the tire affecting the gauge readout, you might see 1 or 2 mph delta on the speedo and it will not be noticeable in terms of gearing or acceleration. Maybe Patrick Long would tell the miniscule difference but not us mere mortals. especially on the street.

Save your money for track tires, buy cheaper street tires.
Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110 (link) Good reviews, and in stock sizes, <$750 delivered

I need new street tires very, very soon (cord is almost visible).
I am running Yokohama AD08s and just my luck the rear tires are backordered - I am told due to the crisis in Japan.
Curiously, PS2 rears are also on backorder!![surrender](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/surrender.gif)
If I could find AD08s I just need to replace the two rear tires, but I can't.
Any suggestions?

I do not run stock AX no more but for street dunlop star specs are imho still best choice.
also you can try Nitto NT05. toyo proxies 1 - probably worth to read about them a bit more how they are in the rain.
i got myself star specs again, they go to stock 8/10 18" rims in 235/275 sizes and they are pretty perfect as street and track rain tires - perfect grip when cold and reasonably high tolerance to heat on a track.

a lot of people say new sport PS2s will be those best overall _street_ tires this season.
depending of what rims you run on your car for the street - look up that link I gave, it has all the recent info and I cannot add much to it.
'good' street tires are difficult subject as everyone understands it in its own way. quite difficult to decide for somebody else. Try to decide what wheels and tire sizes you need, then look up what is available from the list. to me - i am not overly concerned by noise and ride comfort - I need street tires to have very good cold traction, to be able not to hydroplane over standing water, not to fall apart on a track and that is pretty much it. standing water performance is a most difficult item of all those, imho only RE11s and star specs do it more or less OK, out of cheaper tires.
if you have any doubts - just get new sport PS2s - those will be good, but more expensive.

You'll not find that in a street tire. Good cold weather performance means crappy track performance. Another reason I have a set of street wheels/tires and a set of track wheels/tires. Compromise never ends well.

I went with the 235/285 AD08 setup as I needed a tire with those charateristics, and the 295s were on back order before the Japan crisis. I placed my order for the 295s back in Mid-Feb.

when i speak of cold traction - it is not cold weather, it is just regular street driving when it is above 40-45 degrees outside.
But it is all about a logical compromise and to my experience so far star specs fit it best but their largest size is 275 so it means to be creative with wheels sizes. RE11 is next contender but they do not tolerate heat as well and some say their sidewalls are too soft so car feels too 'wobbly'. PS2s I had as my very first tires set simply ended up melted, on a street they were OK but star specs are still better in a dry imho.
if anybody has real life experience with nitto nt05 over standing water it would be interesting to hear about it. from what I was told before and just from looking at tread i cannot imagine them to be better than star specs.
other interesting to some degree idea is to get R888 and cut different grooves on them so they would evacuate water better and run that on street but I am do not have that much free time plus R888 will not be good with cold traction.

Sorry to resurect this old thread but I am in need of new street tires. Was thinking about the Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110 from Tire Rack. Any opinion on these?
I use MPSC's for track duty so these would be for street only.
Thanks.
Chet

You can also run the Sumitotmo HTR Z III in 235/40 295/30 18. Have a set on the 6GT3 and they are OK. Had to run them @ the track once when I cut an NT01 and they were adequate backup.
