GoProHD camera settings questions......
Just picked up a new GoProHD camera and have a few questions.
1. For those of y'all that run with the GoProHD camera what video resolution settings are you using? Do you use R2 or R3? I'm not much of a video technophile so I don't understand what I would shoot 30fps versus 60fps.
2. Do you use the closed back or open back on the case? It says use the open for <100mph and closed for >100mph. However, we run speeds upwards of 160mph+
3. Anybody do test videos of different settings I could watch?
Thanks!

So this may sound stupid but does 60fps actually mean that it is recording twice the number of frames as 30fps? If so, I'm guessing the reason to do 30fps would be for memory card size?

Dell, are you mounting the camera inside or outside?
If you are mounting it inside, I'd assume you should use open back.. I have never tried mounting outside at 100mph+, so not sure.. but for autoX speed (mounting outside), I use open back..
I capture at 1080p, so I think that's R5?

That makes sense.
As far as the r5 setting. I don't see a reason to capture at r5 (1080p) since I am not viewing or burning the video in Bluray format and the file size is a killer.
ps. I tried a quick r5 video and my fairly new Mac (2 Ghz Intel Core 2 duo) will hiccup every once in a while when playing it back in full 1080p. I pulled it into iMovie and exported at a smaller res and it looks great with no playback hiccups.
Why do you capture at 1080p?

I hear you.. I capture autoX video for the club here (Connecticut Valley Region).. since it is just autoX, so the videos are pretty short.
Storage also isn't too much of a problem, as I just upload them to YouTube. YouTube supports full HD, so this way it just gives the viewer a choice.. (they can choose from 1080 all the way down to 360)

Good to know as I have 8g cards. I'll do some testing this week.
Thanks for all the input

I have this camera and in the GT3 mount it inside on the rolbar and have open back. In my clubman on slower tracks, I mount it outside with the open back and faster tracks or bad weather closed back. It is a great camera in terns of picture quality (I use R5 as I have a 16GB card). The big problem is the audio in open cockpits. It does not have a jack for an external mic which would help out. I am very happy overall with it though.
