Blasphemous as this may sound...how realistic is it to have a 6-GT3 as a DD?

The biggest problem is that it's frustrating. It's like taxiing an F18 to work...all you want to do is go WOT as soon as there's an opening....

I'm in the same boat! I DD my Honda Element. Plenty of storage capacity, and the GT3 has been sleeping since Thanksgiving. Can't wait until the spring!

Nice! Right now i daily a Honda Civic back and forth to work. Gets the job done and is insanely reliable. I pull the cover off the GT3 and sit in it every couple of weeks. Puts a smile from ear to ear.

I agree that if your daily is a stop and go/urban congestion affair, get a bike or prius. But if you arrange your commute to "off hours" and/or use the alternate backroads then the GT3 is a perfect commute/DD car. Sure, not too many WOT opportunities, but it is such a precise driver, good gas mileage, very low maintenance, nice sounds, etc. etc. etc., how could you leave it in the garage?

Because a GT3 offers little in terms of utility.

Example: I can't take my track wheels and new rubber to get it mounted in my gt3. What about ski trips? (See what I did today in my subaru on the way to Kirkwood - I would be pissed if I did this in a nice car!)

I guess everyone's situation is different. Some people dont even own a car and use public transport. I did that in China for a year. But if I could only have one car, I would not own a GT3. And I love this car.

You have to move out of New Jersey!

Down here the only time I would not drive a GT3 is during a hurricane, but what could you drive in a hurricane that isn't an M1A1?

oh, just to clarify some of the comments. They drive an older Porsche right now as a DD, so the whole lack of space and manual transmission arguements are not applicable. The question was more about ride.
After reading the responses, now I want one for myself!

Hey Serge, is that one of those sudden avalanches that just pop out of nowhere?

Easy peasy DD. Best car I ever owned. More fun, better experience, completely exhilerating, and all I wanted to do was drive fast, closer to the edge, always. Sadly, getting it to the edge is way illegal, everywhere. I was going to jail if I hadn't sold it. I miss it!

I purchased my 996 GT3 last Summer from someone who drove it over 80k in 4 years. That's a fair amount of daily driving miles ! Since owning I've taken it to several DE weekends and on occasion to work. No doubt these cars are soundly engineered like my other P-car with 3.2l engine, but I should admit bracing for the big expense day that happens to all in this board that's spent enough years truly driving around their Porsches.

I have been driving a 911 daily since 1995. The GT3 is a fine DD and gives you something to look forward to at the end of the day. Cars are a depreciating asset...might as well enjoy them as much as possible.

You named it. I am no Sebastian Loeb and didn't win the Tahoe Rally Championship.

As a DD the 6.2GT3 is quite comfortable with the stock seats. I don't even mind the Euro GT3 seats. I have a Sparco Pro 2000 (a brand new version). It is a bit restricting to ride in for 3 hours. I don't mind streeting the Nitto NT-01s, though they can be a bit loud at times. The Yokohama Advans are quiet and grippy. I have a rollbar and a stereo with a bluetooth speakerphone. It may as well be a luxurious twin turbo. Don't get me started on how the 997.2GT3 is the perfect amalgam street/track car.

As other posters have noted, you go into major WOT-withdrawal in traffic and feel like you are wasting this beautiful machine which was purpose-built to carve road courses. Like we joke in medicine, you only have so many heartbeats allotted in life, don't waste them. As another poster said, you feel like you are stuck taxiing your F-18 Hornet, but can never get ATC to clear you for take off. Kind of a guilty feeling, like putting a winning thoroughbred in front of a hansome cab in Central Park.

It's a "daily driver with an edge" - know that, and enjoy it!
