FFaust,

With car up on all four stands what's your ground clearance? Recently I had to get mine rather high so I could comfortable get under and flush clutch fluid. The process (especially with only one floor jack) was laborious and VERY un-nerving....

Wondering what your feedback/experience has been.

Musclehdz101;

let me answer your question about Clearance. The clearance under the car when four checkpoint check stands are used ranges from between 12-13 inches. When two stands are used at the lifting end, that range becomes 17- 23 inches. This range exists due to the location of jack points on the car. The images below will illustrate these points for you visually. Our approach basically has been to use 4, when doing brake work and used two when clearance needed. Of course this doesn't solve everyone's problems, but we believe solves a high percentage of the service functions that we usually do.

A picture is worth a few words, so re-post from other thread. And as Chuck said, you get more ground clearance at one end if you only use 2).

More info and lots of pics: https://rennlist.com/forums/997-gt2-...ackstands.html

Most importantly, I feel very safe under the car. Looking at your four red stands I get a bit worried. Looks like a solid push on the car from any direction could topple the stands.

BTW Muscle, RC51 in the background?

You're welcome Chuck.

I assume you're talking about my posts in the 997 section. Stopped racing road bikes (that's bicycles ) last year when I got addicted to this way, way, way more expensive obsession. Now I've got 10 - 15 lbs to lose Just couldn't ride the trainer anymore and deal with the short days of winter. Well at least now I know where there's an "easy" 10 - 15 lbs to lose on the car... the driver

Just a quick note for getting an extra inch of height with a lowered car on 4 stands. Some have used 2 low profile pads and 2 standard pads. The low pads get under the car to lift one end, but with one end up, the taller pads can be used on the other end. The difference in height (end to end) is not so much that the car is unstable on the stands.

^^^ Are you sure this is advisable? I thought the low profile pads had rubber and a pin that fits our cars, while the standard pads have a metal groove for frame rails. It doesn't seem the standard pads would be secure on the factory lift points.

Either way, I ordered both types of pads Should give them a try in a few weeks.

The standard pad has both - a groove for a pinch weld and a hole for a pin and the rubber insulator. The standard pad comes with the same rubber insulator as the low profile pad, but has a longer pin. It works fine on standard ride height Porsches.

You have a very keen eye, wondered if someone was going to comment when I posted pic. In reality it is a 97" VFR (aka "Interceptor") but back when I had no responsibilities and allot of time on my hands. I had "dropped" (nice way of saying a minor crash) the bike twice and trashed a number of the plastic panels. A friend at the time showed me how to repair and do custom fiberglass panels so I "recreated" an RC51 look for my VFR (including paint job). At a quick glance it looks just like an RC51. ;-)
