Default Got a 3: Keep my 19" Track Wheels or get 18"?

Well so much for the best laid out plans and useless crystal ball.

Just bought a 996 GT3 and should pick it up next week - don't worry, thread and pics coming as soon as I get it.

Got 19" track wheels a few months ago for the 997S as they were the proper size. Also, I figured the next one would be a 7 GT3, so again, size and offsets would work; so much for planning ahead

Wheels are 19" OZ Ultraleggera, F 8.5" ET53, R 11" ET65 + MPSC. Don't worry about the numbers, I'll check the offset when I get the car.

Should I keep these as my track wheels for the 6 GT3, or should I sell and get 18" next season?

Tire selection is no longer as challenging with the 19"; 18" tires are cheaper; 18" setup should be lighter...

...and the car was designed with 18s. I've read that the C2S and 7 GT3 were optimized/tuned for 19, but I'm not sure if the same logic holds with the 6 GT3 since no electronics. Keeping the 19" would obviously save me some $$, but at what cost performance-wise, if any? Don't care about looks.

I tried doing a search but haven't found anything specific. Plus I keep getting pulled in by all the past threads; spent last night reading about how NOBLEGT3 shouldn't have been able to do a 1:30 at Mosport with a "stock" 3, lol.

I think you should get those 18" CCWs with hoosiers for sale

19s on a 6gt3 is just wrong IMO. 18" NT01s are 1000/set. Seems like a good way to go if you're not running a slick.

Oem suspension and ABS were designed and programmed for 18” wheels and with a curtain F R ratio of overall diameters.
18” tyres are cheaper at least a little, but newer tyres will probably come more and more in 19” k 20” than 18” with racing slicks excluded.
The 18s and tyres will be lighter than the equivalent 19 combo.
Also the car if it doesn’t have shorter RP or is re-geared it won’t be good to fit at the rear of it the bigger diameter 19” as you ll make the long gears appear even longer.

If you can sell them without a big loss I vote go for it and use 18” instead.

But if not just run them, besides Cargraphic won 2 years in a row the German Tuners Grand prix using 19” on their legendary 996GT3RS
Their car used fenders extensions to fit
FA: 9,5x19 offset 35 with 245/35R19 Dunlop SPORTMAXX
RA: 12,0x19 offset 45 with 305/30R19 Dunlop SPORTMAXX

Also to save you some time your 19 wheels will be
Front 13mm more to the inside so you should fit spacers to fit them
And the rears again 2mm more to the inside which is negligible.

OEM
are
8.5 x 18 40ET
11 X 18 63ET

I know, was just outside taking pics of the 19s in case I need to advertise : )
Might be a good idea to wait until I burn through a couple sets of "tamer" tires before I go for the Hoosiers though.

^^ Thanks John, at least now I know that it wouldn't be a sin... or even dangerous, as I've read on some old thread
Thanks also for the OEM specs, I wasn't sure. I can live with spacers in the front for a while.

Diameters of the triple-8s are pretty close in the 18 v. 19 (both F and R). Cups don't appear to come any wider than 295 in 18, but up to 345 in 19. 888 offer more choice in 18 for sure.

Real cups existed in 315 /30/18 now discontinued. Neil (GT2range) got news from UK that they are gonna produce some more. But I dont know tyres are subjective to big changes with the new European Community legislation prohibiting the use of high-aromatic oils in tyres.

Pirellis new trofeo is one of the new generation tyres. But they only announced lots of 19s and only 295 18s..

We ll have to wait and see

i have never seen 6gt3 that's remotely on pace on track on 19".
just sell them and get with the program. you will not regret.
u too far. else my kinessis fits the bill perfectly.
why i sell? i run super wide wheels that rubs everything. i like to see my brake ducts full off and making noises that everyone around me drop their jaw.

Congrats on the purchase.

Sell 19s, go with 18s.

As mentioned before the 6 GT3 suspension is optimized for 18s, 18s are cheaper (MPSC are the best IMO and I've tried everything but the R1).

Now you need a trailer.

Do the 18's. The deal on the other thread of $2200 for CCW with 2-day old R6 is fantastic! If I lived in the area I'd buy them just because of the price, even though I have 3 sets of CCW already.

You know how much freaking trouble that's gotten me into over the last year? If I get with the program any more, I'll be quitting my job, selling the house, and buying a motor-home to go track to track I've only had P-car for a year, and this is my third. Bought a new GMC... in case I need to tow, and then bought a trailer (sorry Chris, got a used Trailex for a good price). And now this

Now, please explain the "not remotely on pace" bit. Is that because of larger diameter, which causes the gears to be too long? Otherwise, I don't get it. If diameter is close, and weight is a bit more with 19, what diff does it make

Thanks Chris.
See response to Mooty. I'll give you a call when I'm ready for an enclosed, which at this pace should be around next June

I even spoke to Bruce G about his 996 cup a couple of weeks ago but then I came to my senses and realized the logistics involved. I'm not quite ready, lol.

i dont know why, but i think most track guys like 18.
it's just easier. when you run out of tires, go steal the 18" in someone else's trailer. if you have 19" wheels, who's rubber you stealing.

that's why i like porsches too.
when i had lotus. need a smart part on track, no one has it. no one had lotus. with gt3, you will be tripping over them. brake ducts, extra rotors, pads, whatever....,

Bruce secretly doesn't want to sell any of his toys. He keeps adding to the stable instead!!

Some interesting stuff out there depending upon what you want and what you can tow. CDN $$$ is strong so US trailers are cheap relative to a few years ago. I know of a clean 2 yo LOADED Trailex enclosed that may be available.
