Good choice with Trailex- I've had mine since 1993.

Nice!
So, kind of on topic based on the pics:
I also got a Trailex last month from a guy who had an older air-cooled (not sure if the weight and CG is that much different).
When I put the car on, stopped by the front wheel "blocks", it "looked" like it was too far back; hanging off the back a bit.
I loosened the blocks and moved them out of the way. Got wifey to watch as I drove on, and tell me when the tongue/hitch went down a bit. That was my indication that there was now some weight on the tongue.

I will probably get a tongue scale at some point, but in the mean time, anyone have tricks to ensure proper loading? (rear bumper even or ??, with rear of trailer, or some other reference)

The usual tongue weight recommended is about 10-12% of total trailer weight. Easy way to measure with a bathroom scale here: http://www.curtmfg.com/index.cfm?eve...ntpieceid=1347 . I also tow my aircooled 911 and GT3 sits back about 1' due to longer nose. I carry gas in a front tool box and tires on a tire rack. Trailex is about 900# + 3100# for car... So you want about 400# tongue weight... Lou

Thanks Lou. The math is simple, but the execution Also, I'm not sure that I would dare unhook the trailer with the car on there. I can just see myself unhooking the trailer and, all of a sudden, it starts rolling uncontrollably, or the tongue shoots straight up. Oh man, I might have nightmares tonight, lol.

How far back does your 3 hang off of the trailer's rear bumper?

I'm new to this, so it's baby steps all the way.

Yeah, that's what I had in mind. I might just need to get it sooner rather than later. Thanks.

Simple thing that will be close enough for now. Unhook the trailer so the truck is by itself. Now get a couple friends who weigh around 400lbs to stand on the bumper. Measure the bumper height off the ground. Friends jump off the truck now. Now hook up the trailer and put the car on it. Keep moving the car forward until the bumper is at the same height as when your friends were on it.

Close enough until you can get a scale.

Cheers,
