Shop knows. I don't.

What I tried was like a rifle bolt. Solid. Crisp. Purposeful. It felt extremely good and I was sold right away. I asked about the shifter and they are the ones that told me I don't need it. After that demo, I can see why.

Check out mikymu's post on cup cable and what parts needed to retrofit to stock shifter box. Mike

Rather than stock shifter I'd recommend the 997 gt3 shifter. Has a better cable path and more robust. When mated to cup cables it's lovely. Cup shifter may of course be more robust, but not sure it's worth it...

Dan, Did you have the cup shifter assembly and cup cables, initially?
I was wondering if you could offer a comparison of noise levels experienced with each mod.
Thanks

Had both the 997.1 GT3 shifter and the cup shifter.
The 997.1 GT3 (*same like regular 997s btw) is better than the oem 996gt3 shifter (has a metal plate on the side) and shorter.
But the cup one is in another Legue IMO. They are made for each other and most importantly its a race proven part; what more to say?
But it is not as short as the 997gt3 and indeed it brings more vibration inside due to luck of dampening from plastic and rubber missing on the vertical axle.

ps my car vibrates anyway so I don't mind

You have cup cables too?

I just have 7 shifter with cup cables. Its really nice so I'm content. Does bring a bit more noise but not a biggy.

^ Yes that's why I said they are made for each other.. cup shifter+cup cables.
I did 997.1gt3 shifter first with oem cables
then added cup cables
then cup shifter..
