Default Nitto's in the rain

Recently tried Nitto NT-01's. After the first day which they were so unbelievably bad they actually felt good day 2-5 so far.
I am shooting for 36-38 because Dell liked those pressures.
While clearly not MPSC's or Hoosiers now that they are broken in they are pretty fun.
All the fun ended however the other day in the rain, that would be day 4 on this set.
They were really not good at all. I took a wag at pressures thinking in the rain maybe 38f/40r would be good and so set the cold temps accordingly.
I think I tried to start with maybe 34f/36r cold.
After four laps of a very loose feeling car at both ends I gave up.
Another GT3 had Yokahama's on and from his right seat that car felt planted.
Anyone actually like the Nitto's in the rain? I thought they would feel okay but I give them a big thumbs down.

I do like the RA-1s in the rain, but still had many great times on track with NT-01s in rain practicing car control and feel. If you are in a race or running against the clock then pick the best rain tire you can, but for HPDEs the Nitto NT-01s are the best all around tire for me. I also drive my car to/on/from the track in all weather conditions.

"We are here at the track, there has been a ton of rain. Don't miss or want PSAM one bit. Don't need it. Even with our dry set up. Full stiff dry set up. It is so exciting that we did not change a darn thing with the set up, just went out through the mud, rivers, and washes. The day was stopped to that a water truck could rinse the mud flow off of turn 5 and a pumper to drain sections."

"The grip of the Nitto NT01 in the wet is phenomenal. It was kinda funny to watch folks come over looking confused at the R compounds

Tomorrow is another day, come out, we got 4 hours on the track and are exhausted."

"I love this car and the Nitto NT01's. Hammering all day Sat. in the rain on the track was just so rewarding, one of the best times at track in a long time.

p.s. Dell, I celebrated by pulling my first tear off from the wind shield

p.p.s This guy came over and asked my friend Jim with the same cars as mine if we had our PSM an TC on in the rain. Should have sceen the look on his face when Jim told him we do not have those driver aids."

ps2 is a good rain tire, I've used it on track before but it's slow. It's not an R compound and it's hard. You want a soft tire in the rain so it heats up in those conditions. Do yourself a favor and get a set of FULL TREAD RA-1s and leave them in your trailer.

For rain, I would usually run the PS2's. With that said, the NT01 can be run in the rain just fine. The "problem" is obvious though. It does not have the grip that it does in the dry. But it is a great teaching tool as long as there is no standing water. If the surface is just wet with no standing water, it is a great tire and your learning curve is much faster on taking in car control understanding. Smooth and controlled wins the race

re Joe: that is hilarious you just took off the first tear-off! We were just talking about that yesterday morning at coffee and I was telling the guys how well (and long lasting) they work and that in the year I had them on I didn't have to tear a single one off and that Joe would get to do the ceremonial first tear!

NT-05 for rain. You'll be as surprised with the NT-05 in the rain as the NT-01 on the dry. NT-01 definitely suck in the rain.

Never tried the 05s, how do you like them as compared to the 01's?

I had gotten them for street. At first I didn't really expect much from them and thought they'd be in the RT-615 range but found them to be a little better and in the rain, they kept on sticking.

I thought Nitto does not make NT-05 in 6GT3 size? When I was looking for tires (was looking for street tires), I ended up w/ Yoko Advant Neova AD-08, because the NT-05 does not come in the appropriate size.. (some commented that it might cause ABS issue..)

Checked the weights for the NEOVA AD08 they are heavy! the rears in 295 are almost 30 pounds! And I thought the 888s were heavy.
