Hey, just curious...maybe a stupid question...can you run a cup shifter and standard GT3 cables? Wondering if the cup shifter even fits inside the center console...

Also, where does that 'superb experience' come from...is it more the cup shifter or the cup cables?

TIA

If I had to put a percentage improvement- I say 15% better then stock shifter and 85% better then stock cables. Mike

And compared 997 shifter vs 996 cup shifter it's cup shifter is 10% better. It's feels way mated to cup cables even though throws slightly longer. Mike

And 997 shifter vs 996 shifter it's 5% better. It's not the shorter throws but it's more gated. Mike

There is no way. You have removed the rubber / plastic ends that isolate the shifter assembly from the oem cables / gearbox. Noise is one of the disadvantages of this upgrade. Especially when the car is equipped with a LWFW.
Some people can't live with it.. others love it.

The cup shifter is identical to the oem. But has been reinforced.
The cup shifter alone will add almost nothing, the cables alone are a big improvement.
But the thing is that they are designed to work together, an excellent race proven setup.
Make sure to upgrade all the necessary parts.

This season my Cup shifter is just a bit stiffer than last fall. I realigned the shifter console but the throws were so much slicker when first installed.
I greased the console and that helped but not perfect. I think my shift cables might need lubrication. I have been caught in the rain at the track a few times. One of the cables has no rubber boot, this could be the issue.
How do I clean/lube these cables? I have a cable lube attachment left over from my motorcycle days but it is not nearly big enough to fit the cup cables.
Does anyone lube these?

Dave that would probably be a cable out job.

Was running my first set for 3 years. Nothing changed.

Thanks John. I may flush my transmission fluid as well.
