You have to order a special sun visor. You can see it in the first pic.

Interesting, thanks for pointing it out that the 997 bar has the harness bar at the back.. I'm surprised. I agree w/ you that it is better to have the bar closer to the seat so you don't need to run the belt for such a long distance.. !

It is better not to stretch out the harness and best to have it as close to the seat as possible. I wonder if the RS harness bar is tall enough so it's parallel to the opening of the seat for harness. I would get the 997 factory cage if not for the lack of availability in US and the high cost from Germany. So far the RS cage is the best alternative.

Another question. Do you think the 996 RS cage A pillar poles will clear the instrument panel on the 997 RS?

Yes oem cage that came std on my clubsport 2004.
Sunvisors have a gap in end so that you can leave down with the front cage on, but you can't close them back.

Even on the clubsport cage the harness bar is in same position like the RS one ,about 8cm from the seat veeery close and the holes are in correct position even if you lower the seat like I did.
About the pillar I don't know but we can always measure it.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Did some interior measurement today between a 6 GT3 and my RS. The distance between A pillar and edge of dash where the roll bar lean against is not the same. I don't think the 6 GT3 RS roll cage fit a 7 RS ... unless someone gone this route before

Mike,

The 996 front cage A pillar goes up in a 90 deegre angle with the floor and clears the dash, from pictures of 997 front cage A pillar it appers to be same.
So maybe it will clear.
Assuming all other fixing points are same between 996/997 I think it fits.
But to make sure better to speak with the manufacturer:

IVM Automotive GmbH tel: 0049 71369990

part numbers are
996 clubsport cage 996 580 982 01
996 rs cage 996 580 982 02
997 2007 cage 997 580 986 02

Rhonda at FVD confirmed that 6 GT3 cage does not fit 7 GT3. They tried it at Germany and the A pillar and instrument panel was different enough to prevent install of the 6 GT3 cage in a 7 GT3

How about the other way around? Would the 7GT3 cage fits the 6 GT3?

Mike I still doubt it A pillar goes straight up in both cages pick up points are same. But I can't argue the real test (if it really happened.)
Also as i pm you cargraphic sells same heigo cage for 6 and 7.
Anyway another option is 6rs rear with the strap bar close as you like and a DIY front or Heigo / Cargraphic and then its Mooty option. write the bigger cheque.

6 rear + 7 front would be the best combo if they work together!

Yes, they really tried it and it does not fit. DIY front section will cost $3500 ...

mooty is happy when I am poor

I built a roll bar for an e30 once. I only know how to perform GMAW though - not as pretty as GTAW that all the real fabricators use.

If I was ever going to cage mine, I'd get something like this and weld it myself: http://www.customcages.co.uk/Rollcag...=International

Considering the cost of steel, inherent rejected bends, having to notch the tubes, etc, I think the price is well worth it.
