New Video Setup
I could never get the PnP AIM SmartyCam setup to function correctly, and I did not want to tear up my original video camera, so I decided to go with the POV 1.5 setup. I found a 'like new' set up for ~350, shipped.
I am most excited about is being able to easily start and stop it with the wireless remote, which was a PITA with my standard video cam when I was strapped in. It records digitally to SDHC, 8gb max, which per the manual is ~5.75 hours at the max resolution settings; well inside a full weekend of 8 30min sessions
Supporting Purchases:

Supporting Purchases:
- Power adapter kit, to run off cig lighter plug
- Mount to use with my IO mount
- External mic (mounted under under ash tray car; no wind noise)
- Class 4, 8gb SDHC cards (2)
- easy start/stop button
- durable
- light
- records to digital format, not tape; solid state
- good field of view
- should have good sound
- I save my standard digital camcorder for the baby movies :>)
- not HD
- The mic I mounted under the ash tray to try to avoid wind noise. Dell told me about his trick he used in his former SPBX. He ran his under his front dash and the sound is perfect. Compare Sound (mine/vimeo) (his/vimeo)
- The mic is turned on/off by a small inline switch, which I tucked into the rear console; clean, hidden, but still accessible.
- The unit will be powered via the cig lighter plug.
- I'll keep the main unit behind the passenger seat, likely on the floor, and will attach using some industrial velcro.
- The Start/Stop remote, I may velcro inside the door cubby hole
- If I can make it look clean, I may use some of that plastic cable conduit wrap....

Nice I got to get me one!
If you plan to keep it in all the time maybe its better to take power directly from fuse box and hide everything I don’t like the cigarette lighter cable running.
John
off topic who did the stitching in your wheel and shifter?

I will likely keep everything mounted all of the time (weekend and track driven only) except for the power adapter. Its a 2min install/uninstall, and then I am ready to record.
I may consider a permanent power installation the next time I have the seats out for another project....but right now its not warranted.

I made my comments about the seats, assuming it would be easier to run the wires under the carpet where it opens up underneath the seat.

I still have my OEM 'Thicker Steering Wheel'; this was a standard 996 spare wheel I bought from him, to which he added the additional padding for thickness. You can send yours to him, or he has his own.

The wire can go under the sterring column and then under the center console till the back.

Here's something you may want to try...
I just moved my camera from my '74 to the GT3. If you tilt the mount, you might be able to lower the camera and extend it forward to get more coverage of the road ahead. Here are some pictures...
Last one is a jpg of my video test... I do not have a viewfinder in camera, so I musr remove and dowload video. I do have a couple of laser beams that help with alignment.

Burning Brakes
I've had mine for about 2 years and really like the picture quality. My only bitch is the sound quality, nothing but wind noise, can't even hear the engine reving.
I got a new Sony HD Camcorder this year to go with my HD traqmate, I'm hoping the sound quality is better.
