I would not venture to use the word rare. I have seen it on GT series cars way to often. At the least have a survival plan with a repair hose in the tool box at home. I would consider the hose replacement as preventative maintenance.

Checked my fuel pump today. Wanted to find out why fuel gauge was always on empty anyway (a recent change) and I was with fve when we washed out at Summit Point, so I felt his pain. Didn't want that to happen to me if it could be prevented.

My little bent hose (the one on the fuel pump, that is) is intact. It has a green stripe on it and I wonder if this is an upgraded part - car is MY 2005.

Found the fuel gauge problem. The float arm was all tangled up in the siphon apparatus, which had dislodged from the main assembly. If I put everything back together correctly, should work fine.

kbc993- were you able to find out where to source the new hose?

Thanks!

Can JR944 (joe) chime in? I believe his car has decent mileage on it. Are we accounting this failure to defective hoses or cars that see higher stresses (track time)?

I found the 51.22022 Kit Online for $139 @ thesaabsite.com

http://www.thesaabsite.com/900old/c9008vfuel.htm

Is this the best thing to order straight away and install or just throw into the track bag...?

Scott,

Thanks for the feedback. Based on the number of incidents, this seems like a must do pm.

FWIW, I used the entire 12" of the gates hose to make a nice gradual bend. It will kink if you try to get a radius as tight as the stock one ...which is why the stock one has a relatively high failure rate.

Good info! The hose looks smaller than the OEM piece I see in pictures, but glad to hear it has been installed and works.

Guys,

Check out this info Scott put together on fuel pumps. The gates hose is a short term solution IMHO. I did it prior to the new pumps becoming available. The gates hose I had installed worked fine, but when I had the new pump installed the gates section was very soft and gummy; so I wouldn't expect it to last too long. I had it in for half a season. YMMV
