Default Another brake question

Happened to look at Tire Rack again today. Has anyone run the Centric rear rotors they sell for $201 each? They are solid faced and vented. Can't remember what I paid for a set of OEM rotors last time but think it was about the same.
Also, they sell the Hawk DTC70 and HT10 track pads for the front. Anyone used these? I have had nothing but Pagid on the car but am curious.
Thanks

Just installed a front set this WE on my car. From a Cayenne, Rockauto, $76 a piece. I had used them in my CRV, seem very well constructed and ISO certified. At that price, I figured I try them. Unfortunately, I could not get their cryo treated, slotted for about $132 each. Worth a try. My car has PCCB so ended up w/997 cup rears. Thread going around regarding Twin Turbo fitting in rears. Car not tracked yet, but at $76 a pop, consider them disposable... Lou

Nobody has tried Centric rear rotors?
Ninerguru, saw your post. Thanks but I am looking for non-drilled rears. solid or slotted and priced right. I am running ATE up front.
Surely someone has run Centric rears. Anyone??

Are you opposed to drilled rear rotors because of the look? I've had my cup rotors for 3 years, and they are still fine. During that time, I've gone through 4 sets of front non-drilled rotors ( DeMan x 3, PFC 2 piece x 1)

Chuck, I am not opposed to the look. Just as we have all found better rotors for the front than OEM or Cup, I think we can do better on the back.
Lets face it, they get tossed by us due to cracking along the holes. The length of time is purely dependant on the pads you use and number of track days.
If a Centric rotor costs a little less than a Cup rotor and ends up lasting longer than it would be what I want for the car.
I still cannot believe no one here has tried Centric on the back.

I agree with that. Because I am going through fronts pretty fast, I am happy to explore alternatives. Given the longevity of the standard solution for the rears, there is much less money to be saved. BTW, I have used 1 x PFC 01 and 2 x PFC 06 so far on the same set of Cup rear cross drilled rotors. I figure they are about 2/3 spent. The rears I have in reserve are the 997TT cross drilled...cheaper than the cup rotors.

I am at around a 2 for 1 ratio. Two ATE front rotors for every rear Cup cross drilled that needs replacement.
I run Pagid yellow up front and black on the back.
I'm betting these Tire Rack listed Centric solid faced rotors would extend the time between rear rotor changes and save a little on initial purchse maybe too.
I am trying to wait to see if there are any positive or negative responses to these rotors.

Chuck, did you have PCCBs originally? Looks like the cup rears are a good $/longevity compromise. How many track days would you say on the rear rotors? Drove through CT a few times

I wouldn't want smooth-faced rotors. I like the idea of slots to let gasses and dust come off the pad. A pad floating like a hovercraft (or on marbles) on a smooth rotor doesn't seem good to me.

I haven't looked at 997TT rear rotors, but I need something 350mm in diameter. No cracking yet on my cup rears, but I should consider ordering a new set as a backup.

Cheers,

I use Hawk HT 10 pads front and rear for DEs. I like them. I don't do a lot of street driving, just some occasional weekend trots, and they are OK on the street- not much noise. I went to these 'cause I liked them on my previous track car.

Thanks for the info TurboCup. I looked at the Tire Rack description of the centric rotor and cross referenced that part on a different brake retailer web site.
Tire Rack describes the rotor as solid faced, the Zeckhausen site shows it drilled.
Just adds to the confusion and original question of has anyone run a solid faced rear rotor.
Don't know that I would change pads to the Hawk, been pretty happy with the Pagid yellow/black combo, but I am still curious if anyone has run a solid or smooth faced rear rotor. I am now not sure the Tire Rack Centric rotor is actually a smooth faced rotor anyways.

I was at a Tech session at Paul Miller in NJ this afternoon and looking at the Panamera Turbo sticker I noticed that the rear brakes are 13.8" or 350mm. I just found a PDF doc at press.porsche.com that lists them as 350x28mm... Looks like we have found a source for rear steel replacements for cars that came with PCCB brakes. I bet they are the same offsets, etc in this world of mass produced, "let's see what we can re-use" world. They might be cheaper than the 997 Cups... Lou

Ninerguru,

Sorry for the delay in response, I've been in the "wilderness". I did have PCCBs. I have at least 60 heat cycles on my rear cup rotors, and I think they are 75% done. Tracks include, Watkins Glen, VIR, Mid Ohio and Daytona...not so easy on rotors. I'll be installing 997TT rears as replacement.

I used Hawk Blues and Black on a Rx-7... the dust generated by these at the time was CAUSTIC beyond belief. If the dust mixed with rain car and wheels were stained pretty badly.
Is HT10 dust similar to this?
