Ooops, forgot I had to replace the oil pressure sensor.

17500km which is about 11000 miles. I bought in July of 2007 with 980 miles on the clock.

Gone through some rotors, and pads and had my alternator rebuilt this past winter.

Replaced driver's side front wheel bearing.

Other than that it's been great. I think my diff is done though.

I've never came across a car - any car, ever - that can take track use better than a GT3. Not a one.

Curious to know details about the oil pressure sensor problems. What were the symptoms? After driving mine hard on the track, I get a low pressure warning at idle, which goes away if I increase the RPM sightly. i am thinking that I may have a sensor problem, or that the the 0W40 oil is too thin for hot days.

When it fails, it will randomly go to zero and the Oil Pressure warning light will come on. The oil pressure gauge might not ping at 5 bar at higher rpm, and jump between 4.5 and 5 erratically.

There is also a "Oil Pressure Sender Failure" warning light, which will eventually come on.

Mine has around 60k miles. Lots of track miles

On our trip back from Le Mans last week another GT3 owner (MK2) stopped and chatted as he had spotted my Fearnsport sticker as he was also a customer of that fine establishment.

Turns out he had done 140k miles! Still on original brakes (ceramics) and clutch

Never been tracked and the only mod was a set of KW3's as the originals had started to leak a little..... Nice chap....

Amazing.

The water pump fitting issue has me pretty concerned as of late. It wouldn't be so bad if there was a known fix for it.

I had the fittings blow out twice, once on each side of the motor, once at Tremblant (2006) and once at Mosport (2008). In both cases, capable guys supporting other drivers helped out. The fix is quite simple - clean up the fitting to remove the old adhesive and re-insert using Loctite of the right temperature grade, let it dry for the prescribed time ( not long - a couple of hours??), refill with water and Watter-wetter, and "burp" the cooling system (This can take a long time - need to get the air pockets out of the system. Once hot air is blowing consistently out of the vents, you are ready to go.)

The first case happened under warranty and te assembly was replaced. The second, not so. The general feeling is that the repaired "Loctited" version is stronger than what Porsche provides, so the second repair remains and is still good after 2 years.

Wouldn't judge the car too harshly over this "quirk."

Oh, not judging harshly, I love mine, but it’s the thought of it failing while I am on the track and totaling the car that has me spooked. I'd like to fix it preemptively, so I'll investigate that.

I saw one at the track today with under 4k miles. Nice guy, who recently bought the car with under 2k. I handed him my key and told him to check the odometer.

One of the chaps in our club has a 2000 with 105,000km most track, no issues. Mine now on 19,200km and very sweet.

My '04 has 50K miles on it -- it's also my daily driver; the mileage is pretty much 1/3 local, 1/3 getting to/from the track and 1/3 track -- about 15 days/year.

The car has been as close to trouble-free as possible; a few weeks ago a coil-pack failed. Other than that no reliability issues at all. The diff is ok; No RMS, no water pump issues. The cats failed at about 40K miles but were replaced at no cost by the dealer even though the warranty had expired.

I've gone through lots of street PS2 (which has been a disappointment ) and MANY MPSC, rotors and pads.

I love my car.

quite a neat thread and 5 years on I thought maybe worth another bump? I hope you agree.

I can testify to 2 cars over that period...

as above "One of the chaps in our club has a 2000 with 105,000km most track, no issues. Mine now on 19,200km and very sweet."
... same experience here:
One a MkI 996 CS (00) which became a dedicated track car in 2011 when it had 40k kms on it.
Just sold to another racer with 95k kms on it (yes 10,000+ laps!) and beside normal wear (rotors, pads, half shafts, diff etc..) and besides a single synchro refresh, nothing! engine unopened, not leaking or lost compression dyno still strong and car won overall championship in 2013. No coolant pipe problems either (interestingly not mentioned above ie in 2010 as a problem) beside a cracked water bottle (went yellow then failed). Coils replaced once after developing hairline cracks.

Two is a MkII 996 Cup (05) - normal wear as well (half shafts twice, rotors, ebarings etc..), now a diff and synchros after 120 hrs. Top end likely will get opened to review in the next few months although tests are all good; have a scope coming on loan. But again quite a short list considering 2-4 hard hours a month for last 2 years. Not that maintenance is easy ... just got review things continuously and keep an eye out for issues, cracks, spills. This is where a bit of DIY after every race really helps.
