Default 996 GT3 - how are they holding up?

Our cars are 6 years old now. So let's hear it how are you cars holding up? Track events, mileage, and type of usage posting (i.e. dedicated track car, daily driver, weekend play thing, garage queen) would be great. Any major repairs or maintenance schedules would be great also.

I will start: 2004 GT3, stone stock, mostly weekend play thing and occassional daily driver. 3 track events, 18k miles. Repairs RMS under warranty and tires. Maintenance by the book with oil changes and brake fluid flush ahead of schedule based on usage.

20k miles- owned since new. 58 trackdays total(12 per year 1st 4 years/busy 5th year- only did 4/ 6 so far this year). Routine maintenance done ie fluids/bleed brakes 1/yr with castrol srf. Car has been rock solid and a true workhorse at the track. Love this car. Car is pretty much for track only drive to/fro track. Mike

mine had just over 60,000 miles on the clock when I sold it last year. FMS leak was the only non-wear repair. I had new rotors put on the front at 24,000 miles (PCCB) I only paid $2450 that to a great dealer. The GenII were like new at 60,000miles. Dynoed at 58,000 @ 366 at the wheels.
IT had: LWFW,RS winged, TRG rear bits,Fabspeed 200 cell exhaust. THe cars rock!!!
Forgot, I did replace the diff twice. First was Porsche second was Guard.

Over the last 7k miles of ownership and a handful of track days, I've had to tighten a spark plug, tighten the rear lower control arm ball joint nut, and adjust my brake light switch. Brakes/fluids too. Just hit 35k yesterday. This car is horribly unreliable.

Don't forget the Diff. They all fail.

I personally had a clutch issue where the needle bearings came loose and the clutch came apart. That was probably due to an install error when I did my gears...who knows

2004 with 30,000 kms. I'm the second owner (had it for 2 years) and the car has been primarily a track car for it's entire life. Probably close to 80 track days and it's current set up - cup suspension, 3/3.5 neg camber, 900/750 springs - has caused me to buy a Trailex. Engine is stock, but LSD has been replaced with a Porsche Motorsports LSD, and I've installed solid engine mounts. Car has been driven hard but maintained well, and has been virtually bullet proof, and itnever fails to amaze me with it's reliability. The more I drive it the better I like it.

Close to same story 40k miles just had water pump fail and one of the press fittings come out.
The car likes to hammer down. I love her.

28k miles in 6 years, mostly to and on the track. Maybe 60 track days. Only repair has been the alternator! Lots of rotors and pads, rear toe links otherwise bone stock other than GT3 seats and tequipment roll bar, shroth harnesses. Religious oil changes, trans, diff., brake fluid too. Last I checked by diff was still OK too. Nobody builds them like Porsche. I wonder if the 997 GT3s are this good? It seems likely that the GT1/Metsger motor will be retired before too long. That won't be good.

11,000 miles of which probably 9500 are track miles. Lots of modifications and the only issue, which is common, is replacement of LSD with a Guards unit. Bullet proof engine.

16,000 miles. 6 track days - RMS done under warranty, zero other issues. 2 sets of rear tires. Regular oil changes, did the 4 year service. Rock solid car.

2nd owner, first owner put 19k miles on it ZERO track time. i've put 5k miles on it with maybe 8 DE's at the local tracks... she's a cream puff.

only non-routine..... rms replaced under warrant and lsd rebuilt with guards unit. not a daily driver, best car i've owned. in fact, its my 2nd 996 GT3!

Last week I was instructing at a Lambo day Ca Speedway and drove many Lambos, but at the end of the day was able to take the LVDell SpeedYellow special out for some hot laps for the "kids". I was hammering down showing the Lambos the power of the P-car and sometimes thinking while going through banking in turn two at 130+ I hope the press fitting does not come out right now.
I did not have time two tape down the lip and it came off in turn two-good times. New lip coming before next track event at BW this weekend.

Pics from Caliphotography.com not mine, if at tracks in so.cal check him out.

Joe, I have to say I am very impressed at the miles you have packed on her since she changed zip codes. Now that my friend is what GT3 ownership is all about!!!

I finally get my dream car that I have wanted even before i knew what a GT3 was and my timing could not be worse just before the economic tsunami.
I feel like the car could turn into a pumpkin at any time, so i track her as much as i can.

Thanks Dell
