Default RSR Wing on a GT3?

Hey Folks,

What's the general opinion on the installation of an Porsche OEM RSR wing on a a 996 GT3? My concern is that the downforce created could lighten the front. I've been told that the whole car will be more planted, but I'm unsure.

Any thoughts?

You need to at minimum get the cup car lip on the front to help balance it. Or if you want to really get it sucked to the ground there is a CF larger front lip available. It was used for a few years on ALMS cars.

I know where you can get both if you are interested. PM me.

Aerodynamics are complicated so one must be careful on the balance if you just change one end of the car.

I don't know the characteristics of the RSR wing. But, I've seen cup car data and they are very heavy on the rear downforce (much more so than street GT3s). I don't think you'll be able to proportionally add as much downforce on the front as on the rear, but if the cup is any indication, this is OK.

007DT's info is spot on I think. Do a cup front lip or something bigger. Since grand am could do something bigger within the rules, they did, so you can follow them.

My only question is why RSR and not a cup rear wing?

Here is the CF Front Splitter recommended for an RSR Wing. Even with a cup wing you'd have to put some serious shims on it to balance out the downforce. It is laying under my old Koni Car, but you can see that it is designed to lay over the front. Definitely not for street use.

I think that answers the question for me Dave. Thanks again.

BTW - I'm looking at the RSR wing, because I want a OEM wing for the GT3 and there's a used one available right now. I've been looking for an RS wing for months but seem to keep missing out on them when they come up.

I personally think that anything more than an RS wing would look to radical for street use. IMO

I'd say just wait until you can find an RS wing. It would seem anything else would lead to complications in the handling dynamics, not to mention install.

Have you determined that the combination of 8deg shims on the OE wing + cup splitter are not providing sufficient stability in high speed corners?

Not at all - just looking to take the next step. I've made the decision to find an RS wing and leave it at that.

Dave that splitter also looks like the ones used by the 996 World Challenge cars like the one below. You mentioned having a source, can you PM me that info please as I'd love to try one on my 996...

Yep - I have a source lined up, but I'm trying my hand at finding a used OEM piece first.

I'm guessing w/ Euro weaken, the Manthey RS wing might be a good way to go.. !

Any reason why you would pick the OEM RS over the Manthey RS wing? (just curious..)
