Been reading the archives. Not sure which specific parts folks are referring to in their posts, but there appears to be several different parts that have failed.

- Some folks replace all hoses once a year
- Some folks run water with water wetter instead of coolant
- If a hose feels like soft spaghetti, replace it because the clamp can't hold onto it
- Some plastic hose connectors break and folks replace them with metal (cup car parts I think?)

Cheers,

The part that came out and dumped coolant everywhere is in pic #4. Turn the pic ccw so it is vert. This will show you the right side of the motor as you are standing at the back. See where the wire is attached below the clamp, there is a metal J fitting that is press fitted into the motor with glue. The botoom of the J fitting came out and rested near the belt. The rubber hose and clamps are fine, I just pushed the J fitting back in and safety wired it but also found that my water pump was leaking after this event. Had to replace WP and just spent two hard hot days at the track and everything is fine so far.

- Some folks replace all hoses once a year
==> unless you race, that's unlikely. i just replaced ALL coolant related hoses on 6gt3. the parts cost is clost to $500 and if you dont do your own work, the labor is another 6-700.

- Some folks run water with water wetter instead of coolant
===> all track drivers should, well maybe not in the cold states.

Was suppose to do a full weekend at TH with NASA aug 13/14- ended up 3/4 into 1st session that particular part 4porsch showed reared it's ugly head. It's not the hose thcamomiles off but the aluminum fitting connected to hose popped off and water pump is leaking as well. GAME OVER for the weekend- bawahhhhh!!!!! Ne idea of cost to repair? These glued in press fittings are a joke!!! Mike ps- thank god I had water plus water wetter- it laid a strip on the worse place to spin at t1 if u ran coolant.

Mike, sorry to hear. That sucks!

Be sure to post on the "sticky" Failure Registry thread, right at the top of the 997 GT2/GT3 section.

That certainly seems to be the most common one.

Not sure how mooty comes up with 1100 for repair with parts, but having the coolant pipes welded by a shop seems like > $2000.

I highly advise if you track at all you do a courtesy of doing water wetter plus water in lieu of coolant if those pos fittings are not addressed. The in-house shop at thill said he's seen or worked on 6 gt3's(6 and 7 derivations) that press fittings popped off. He repaired my fitting and tapped a pin on pos fitting but as soon as i fired up- water pump started leaking cats/dogs. The section I laid a strip at thill would have caused major carnage and injury and I don't want that on my head if it was preventable. Everyone who skated by as
I sat parked there on the side came unscathed. I'm am scared to drive this car til this gets addressed(at a minimum waterwetter) because car will KILL someone behind me!!! Mike

Bummer, Mike. I had mine welded before one came loose. Didn't want to send someone into a wall.

I figure it's about $25-30K to fix. Since you will be pulling the engine and stripping it down to almost a long block, may as well give it to Sharky for some magic.
