It's tough to get below 2800. That's where I'm at and I don't even have a dash.
I also removed the bumper crash bars, deleted the sunroof, gutted the doors, lexan windows, and cut 26 lbs of wire out of the car
It's a regular 996 not GT3 but no huge difference with the weight. I need to drop another 100 lbs for GTS4 and I can't do it without carbon fiber.

hard to get to that weight. i have the lightest chassis, of all 996s, and your gt3s engine/tranny, i've "heard", is overall 100 lbs heavier.
CF/FG hood, doors, rear deck lid are mandatory....going with roof panel won't help you much. LWF will help. remove cats and mufflers. AC delete. strip strip strip.
my car is ~2550 dry/2750 with my fat ***, cool suit and running fumes . confirmed by pca scrutineers coming off track. i still have another 50 lbs to remove with dash, wiring gut, misc things...

They key to make the 996 GT3 light (other than the mods I had when it got to 2,760 lbs on SCCA certified electronic scales), is to replace the doors with 996/997 Cup doors, eliminate the emissions equipment and install a lot of carbon panels (engine lid, hood, fenders, bumpers). This is how Porsche made it with the 996 GT3 Cup.
Once everything is done, the project cost will match or exceed the price of a 996 GT3 Cup, with a resale worse than a stock 996 GT3, so I vote 996 GT3 Cup.

Unless you are talking about the early 996 vs GT3. The later ones are a lot more similar, for example the crash bar that goes across the top of the rear seat is the same on 02+ 996's and GT3.

If u look at a c2 vs c4(gt3)- trunk space is larger then gt3. Karlooz who has a super spec 99 c2 can fit a full size tire but no way with the gt3. Mike

Well today decided to strip the trunk. Sorry for the lame photos(1st gen iphone). Still have to remove battery mount from bottom of trunk 3rd pic(need another hand to unbolt and remove the last carpet). On 4th pic there's another bracket( I removed stock metal tray from stock location) mounted in front of battery tray- I unbolted it but seems like it's glued there so could not take off. What's it's purpose? If no use how to pry it out( crowbar?). Also do I need to remove the weather stripping as well as the rubber cover where the trunk lock is? Am I missing nething else? Mike

Here's a pic of me at SP with Mooty during a Nasa event. He was quiet again thru out the session( I swear he was a mannequin). He hates Nasa but PRC was in town so he stopped by for a short bit. I have pics of same pic but wo the headonphotos. net logo but can't upload- weird. Mike

Well finally got the remainder carpet off. Getting battery unbolted by myself took a while. Looks pretty nice the way it is now. Just need to get a lw battery and a quick disconnect to mount by driver side window wiper. Nething else to remove from the trunk ie weather stripping and the cover where the trunk receiver is and still trying to remove that other bracket located in front of stock battery tray- it's stuck in good. I think tuesday maybe today I'll try to remove the speakers in the front dash. Now are the door panels easy to remove? Mite do that too. I confess with wife/daughter not here it's been fun kinda removing stuff from the car. MIke
