Default Codes Scanned in the Bay Area

Check engine came on in traffic on my way to work and I head to Laguna straight from here. I'm pretty sure it's nothing as the car it running strong, but would rather have the piece of mind. Wonder if the Oil Pressure Sender is linked to the ecu...replacement is in the mail as I've been getting a few erratic readings.

Anyone have a hookup between Oakland and Monterey where I can get a quick scan? My buddy Ron at IPB is all the way back in Sac... Thanks.

Buy a cheapo obd2 scanner from Kragens. There are Porsche specific codes not listed on the scanner book but if u got a laptop available u can browse renntech.org for Porsche codes if it's not listed in the book with scanner. Just a thought. Mike

I'm in Hayward, CA, not too far from east anchorage of SM bridge.

I don't have my Actron code reader with me today -- it is in other car -- but I have a couple of other code readers here. Call me at office: 510 940 1731 and if you want I'll give you address and if you want stop in and I'll read the codes for you.

Sincerely,

Macster.

"Why didn't I think of that." Bought one at lunch - my car needs a joint - code P0420. Emissions code. Reset it and it didn't come back on. Not too worried.

Thanks for the offer though, Macster.

I bought this unit called Scan Gauge II that has an obd2 scanner/reset as well as parameter settings(wished it had oil temp/pressure readings but oh well). Its mounted in front of the steering wheel straight center and velcroed and connected to obd2 port. I think I paid $350 for it maybe too expensive but oh well. Here's a pic. Mike

Sometimes it'll stop at 4.5 bar as the rpm increases and jump up/down randomly to the 'normal' 5. Later, it dropped to 0 bar while driving then popped right back up to normal, and I got a "Oil Pressure Sender Failure" warning. This confirmed the failure.

The scanner I bought is no frills. But the ability to reset warning lights alone is worth the $70 I spent.

Guys, do you know where I can buy a reasonable scanner online. Hugely expensive in Australia (like everything else Porsche).
