Good choice Dell. I sat in section 15 a few years ago and it was great! I had the line of sight of the cars coming straight at me in the Casino Hairpin, guys trying to out brake each other for the corner and then powering out. You'll have the vantage point of them coming down the straight in addition to what I've mentioned.

If it's rainy, it's even more entertaining

Straight from the track:
https://www.circuitgillesvilleneuve.ca/grandprix-en/

If you are just buying tickets, they are cheaper than any other site. If you are getting hotel, etc, with the tickets, then I wouldn't know what to rec'd since I we got air and hotel with miles

I've been to the GP in Canada, US, and Australia, and I've come away with roughly the same conclusion each time. If you're purchasing a grandstand ticket, you will likely have a decent view during the race, but the experience is quite different from TV viewing. I find it much more difficult to actually understand what is going on during the race. I need to get my act together and get headsets to hear the announcers. Being stationary on the track, there is a car zipping by every few seconds. Television makes it somewhat deceiving as to how fast even the slow cars are.

A grandstand pass has always included general admission access, so I take time during Friday practice to walk around the whole track and watch from different locations and take pictures if possible. The unfortunate drawback to all the safety measures is that decent photography opportunities are spoiled by fencing.

By the way, if you get a table in the Paddock Club, I'll show up to help you fill it, at any race.

Getting in on Thursday afternoon and leaving Monday morning.

Staying at the Montreal Marriott Chateau Champlain. Seems to be very close to the track but not walking distance (~5 miles).

^A short cab ride will do the trick. You'll do plenty of walking on site.

Ok, so here goes......**warning, possible dumb ignorant American question**

Do you use Canadian money only in Montreal or do they accept both CAD and USD?

Only reason I ask, is that I grew up on a border town and both sides (US and Mex) accepted dollars and pesos.

.....flame suit on

Dell,

I go to Canada for Business often. Is there an airport shuttle to get you to your hotel?

I recommend charging your credit card for most of your transactions and get Canadian dollars from an ATM when you arrive Montreal for small stuff. This way, you don't end up with a wad of Canadian dollars in your pocket when you are getting on a plane to go home.

I may end up going this summer if I am not traveling. A supplier I do business with is letting me stay at his summer house on the lake about a hour away. Should be fun..

Good advice Chao. Thanks!

I think then what I will do is take a couple hundred in CDN cash and use it "in case" and charge whatever I can.

I'm assuming the hotel has a shuttle for guests but I haven't called them.

Again, another ignorant American question, but do they speak English in Montreal or French or both? All I remember is the last time I traveled to France (Paris) I really didn't enjoy the conversation as the Parisians acted offended that a tourist didn't speak French.

Hi Dell,

English is spoken everywhere in Montreal once they know you are from the States. You should have no trouble getting around and its a very friendly city. I have not taken a cab in Montreal but Vancouver cab drivers prefer to use credit card as a method of payment for the fare because its safer for them not to carry a lot of cash on the job.

Canadians love Americans visiting because of the exchange rate and your concept of the dollar is the American dollar while their dollar is worth less. I think the exchange is 1.59 CAD to 1 USD today. If you just bring US dollars, they, Canadian business owners, may accept it and keep the 5.9% as their exchange rate fee.

Very cool, thanks. As far as the exchange rate, it is virtually 1:1 right now (1USD = .94CAD).

I'm going to call the Marriott and see if they offer a shuttle from the airport or if we just need to grab a cab.
