Default Limp mode??

I'm at NJ and it's pouring pretty heavily. The track has huge puddles of water and my car keeps on going into LIMP mode (major lose in power). If I restart the car it goes back to normal, then going through the next puddle, it's back in LIMP mode.

Any suggestions? I'd rather run in the rain than sit in the trailer and bitch!

Whoa! Never heard of this "mode". Is there an indication on the dash of this mode? Sounds like might be linked to an ABS problem...

Let us know what you find out.

No CEL. Nothing. Just feels really sluggish. I need to get this figured out.

Have you tried the skinny pedal on the right. Usually that makes the car go faster

JK Rob, hope you get it sorted out

The track dried out some, and it didn't happen again. Hmmm.

Puddle splashing up was definitely throwing something off, MAF sensor/air filter?

I used to have a van that did this when wet. Traced it to water splashing up into the celinode (sp?).

When you drove it at slower speeds in the paddock area, did it go into limp mode or only at high speeds on track?

It only happened on the track when going through large/deep puddles at speed. Today, the car was totally fine because it wasn't as wet in the morning and the afternoon there wasn't any ran.

I wonder how this is going to get resolved?

and converters and cooling these down to the point they no longer work. They need to be hot to work right. Cold (or too cool to work) engine controller not sure it had control of fueling so it entered limp mode.

As sensors dried out and converters heated up again engine controller regained fueling control of engine.

Another possibility:

Blasting through deep standing water dangerous. There's of course hydroplaning but also some cars prone to ingesting water cause engine air intake not properly designed and of course entering a large puddle of water can splash so much water up it can overwhelm even a reasonably well designed engine air intake system.

More than one of the MINI's suffered engine failure from ingesting water and suffering hydraulic lock up.

Your car might have inhaled some water not enough to flood engine but enough to quench the fire in some cylinders. Engine controller in this case will enter limp mode to avoid feeding raw gas to converters.

If you have air filter check if it damp or absent air filter check intake for signs of water.

Sincerely,

Macster.

I'm getting closer to a resolution on my issue.

I pulled two codes today:
P2135 - Accelerator Pedal - Signal Implausible
P0121 - 117 Throttle valve - Signal Implausible
P0121 - Accelerator Pedal Potentiometer 1 - Signal Implausible

Lesson learned: In the future I should check the codes even if there isn't a check engine light on.

It's most likely a result of me hooking up my traqmate to the TPS.

I am installing a traqmate in my 996TT this weekend. Did you ever figure out a solution to avoid the LIMP mode and still pick up the TPS?
