Default Can rear seat or belts be installed in 6GT3?

Hi all,
I am thinking about trading in my C2S for a 2004 GT3 but lack of rear seats may be problematic in shuttling around kids. My question is this: Is it possible to install seat/shoulder belts in the rear squabs? I would expect the bolt mounts would be under the carpet, but don't know for sure. Anybody know?
Thanks in advance,
Steve

it is all there. If you search you will find more than enough information. The big question is the what if? Your insurance carrier can deny coverage for any injury to the rear passengers. No big deal for your kids but a non family member would have you very exposed

The brackets for the seat backs are not there. You'd have a hard time trying to find the brackets as they can't be bought because nobody knows the part number.

Thanks all for the replies. I have found a thread showing the install in a 7GT3 and might be interested in your offer, Oak. I need to check with my insurance Co before I even buy the car. With 9 and 12 y/o kids and a perfectly good '97 C2S, it'd be a dealbreaker if insurance is a problem.

How were the brackets removed? I'm no welder but I thought that once a part is welded-on, it's virtually impossible to remove?

Mounting points for the seat belts are there but the inner bracket for the seat backs (welded to the fender) are not. I know of one 996 gt3 that had the brackets welded in so yes it CAN be done. I'll leave it to the philosophers to opine on IF it should be done.....

So you are saying its not safe to put kids in the back of a Porsche. Because once the factory bits are in, its no different than any other 996 w/back seats. I've seen a variety of back seat mods for kids including hard mounting child seat....all looked as safe as anything stock...and I think the fact that the guys do love their kids provides an even higher level of attention to detail.

Interesting discussion beginning here. I called my insurance co. today and they list the GT3 as a coupe, hardtop, 6 cylinder. No notation on seats. The rep stated no insurance worries with putting kids in the back. FWIW: the rep was an enthusiast and knew immediately what 'rear seat delete' meant. USAA is my company, BTW.
Re the back seat philosophy:
If the back of the GT3 has bits to retrofit, and it is a shared chassis with the 996, what would make an added seat in a GT3 less safe than a 996 rear seat? Is the GT3 missing something essential for safety, or is there just a bracket hold up the seat back missing? I am going to search for an exploded parts diagram to see what isn't there, and will get back to the group if I come up with something worthwhile.

I'm with Va122 on not having rear seats. If the **** hits the fan and someone is hurt - your insurance company will walk away from u. Besides '97 c2s is a nice car neway and more street friendly then the 6gt3. Both my wife and daughter hates the damn ride- cant imagine how more dreadful seating in the rear will be. Mike
