Default spec GT3...

With all the fun mooty is having with his specbox and 996 GT3 prices hitting 50k, I wonder if anyone has considered specGT3 being a possibility in the future. Obviously, it would be much more expensive than spec boxster (only in my dreams for now), but it should be much cheaper than racing cup cars. However, if they are stripped out and weigh 2500-2600 pounds with 380 hp, then speeds should be closer to cups than boxsters... discuss..

keith, i thought about that.
and guess what, i bought another 996gt3.
right, you wonder how i graduated from cal being such moron.

anyways, back to topic.
it's actually very costly to build a car up.
now if you can do the work sure. but most ppl dont have time or skill to do it.
the labor on my car was 12,000 or so (BSR). that's labor. things add up very fast. i did n't do anything, i just had tony do it.
then parts. if gt3 cup. you wont run pss9, you be at minimum moton CS at $7000 parts only (spring shock and upper mounts and few ancillary pieces here and there). there are other fine tunings. then you have to do a lot of deferred maintenance to really build a good car. my BSR has brand new engien, tranny mount, new wheel bearings for example. it does'nt need it now, but hey while you are in there, might as well do it. these tiny things add up.

i never like BM short shifter, but they put on in my BSR. they spent a lot of time adjusting it now it shift as precisely as S2000, which i didn't think was possible. well that's some more hours of labor.

so my WILD guess of building up a gt3 with HIGH standards would be minimum of $40k (assuming you dont do anything but hire help to do it for you). with a 50k donar car. we are now at $90k. that's very close to buying a you very fresh GT3 cup.

sure, GT3 cup may cost more to run, but the point is that GT3 cup has a few more t hings that street based GT3 will never have.

not shooting down your idea, i like it. and i really want to do one. but i can't convince myself to it yet. if you can convince me, they hell. you get to drive my gt3 spec car when it's done.

Hell, 30k minimum. Then add 10k for carbon doors and everything to get it to 2600 (and it won't be)

You just made a slow heavy faux cup and spent more then an excellent 6-cup.

Sad to say 6 gt3 will fall in the 40 range and a spec street 6gt3 class will become a reality(what's worse it'll go down more ie 30k-35k mode depending on mileage). I just have a sneaky suspicion it's the next step up to racing much like the 964 rsa in the future. I'm waiting for that. MIke

would it not be tough to have a spec series with GT3 due to the number of cars? You can not swing a dead cat without hitting a boxter or miata. WIth the number of GT3s build minus the one that are in junkyards how many are left?

Agreed. Not enough cars and the buy in is too high and ends up the same price as a cup car. I've been on two tracks with Mooty in his BSR and that car is plenty fast; easily as fast as a stock GT3 with only a disadvantage on the long straights. I'd seriously consider going that way if racing was in the cards....

As others said converting a street GT3 is expensive. Go with a GT3 Cup.

my BSR just posted 2:04:500 at TH today, over the top of T5.

sadly it wasn't me driving it ;-(

tony colicchio posted the time and was able to repeat 2:04 laps several times. i think he weighs 100 lbs less than me.

I think he's on 888s, spec tire. I hope its not. I hate those things. Used them for a race once then went back to my hooters.

specification

It is the term used to define a racing class where all cars are built to the same specifications.
