Default GT3 for 49K on ebay. auction recently ended

This auction recently ended, a 45.7K mile GT3 for 49K dollars. Wow, i think this is a new low. Here is the link to auction number 200307615624.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...3AIT&viewitem=

The car is Red, (does that lower the value?) has various decent options, looks more used then not based on the seat wear but 49K is a pretty nice price.

oh well, maybe in a few years the pricing will come back.

I think I have seen this car on Rennlist before. I think if it is the same car, the entire front end had been rebuilt. I can't say for sure, but I would be careful.

This car has been discussed MANY times before. There is a reason it has been for sale in the low $50k range forever and no one has bought it.

Wow, their Ebay feedback SUCKS.
Anybody that buys a car from them and has looked at their feedback page, is asking for trouble.
Buyer beware.

Guards Red on 996 GT3 is one of the rarest colors; as rare as Carrera White.

In my opinion, with the 997 GT3 MkII launching in red, it may be the color for next few years.

... and officially the $49,000 was "an offer" which did not mean they made a deal.

I think the biggest problem with the GT3 is that it is very easy for a seller to state NO ACCIDENTS, CLEAN CARFAX, when virtually all track damage is paid for out of pocket or through a track insurance company which neither case reports to carfax. This is why it's best to buy these cars from somebody you know. Probably why we see so many of these cars trading hands amongst ourselves here on Rennlist.

Mine has a "clean Carfax," too, because damage on the track need not be reported per CA law. When I go a bit loopy, and post it for sale (no, not for sale at this time), the posting looks like (note bottom):

No longer tracking, so looking to move to a 997S.

2004 GT3:
- Speed Yellow/black, yellow safety belts
- 25,xxx miles
- Extended warranty until February 2011 or 48K miles
- Thicker steering wheel
- Cruise control
- Forgeline SX3 wheels
- Standard Sport Seats
- TC Design custom rollbar
- RS carbon fiber wing with shims (stock wing included)
- RS front bumper and spoiler (stock spoiler included)
- Cargraphics mufflers
- 997 shifter
- Motorsport brake airducts
-TRG toe links
- Safecraft halon extinguisher on B-K rollbar mount
- AutoMetrics tie-downs
- Clear Armoured
- Center console delete

It has a new bumper (as above), left fender and radiator due to going into a tire barrier at Laguna Seca. Repairs were monitored, inspected and approved by Bob Brooks (viperbob) and Adam Green, two well-regarded P-car guys. I have the details of the work. No suspension or frame damage.

EXACTLY, Dell. Carfax is at best a guide. Also there are plenty of random (non-Porsche) cars around with some serious accident repairs that have no Carfax.
On the flip side, I was looking at a seriosuly clean Jeep CJ that had a Carfax accident report. Reason: it was the third car involved in a rear-end, and the extent of damage was a scraped gas tank.

Check any potential purchase with a paint meter; visually inspect to look for replaced panels. Even if you are buying a "Certified" car from a franchised dealer, ask them to meter the car for you.

Rant over.
