Default Mobilube PTX - Transaxle / Gear Box Oil

Hi;

I read a lot of notes from various web sites and Porsche AG documents about the proper transaxle / gear box lubricant for the GT3 models. I decided not to experiment and I bought one container of the Porsche AG specified Mobilube PTX 75 W 90.

- concensus is that PTX is made for Porsche AG only and only available from Porsche
- only packaged in a 20 liter container at a current list price of $620.62.
- Porsche part number 000 043 204 20
- specified for 1999-2005 996 GT3, 2001-2005 996 Turbo & GT2, 2006-2007 997 GT3, 2006-2007 997 Turbo, and probably current year of same models
- most of the listed Porsche models require between 3 - 4 liters
- many owners are concerned about gear box & limited slip materials and lubricant compatibility

I recommend that if you have the Porsche dealership replace the oil be very specific as to exactly what lubricant you want. They have several 75 W 90.

If you are a 'do it yourself' type you might be able to buy just the quantity you need from a dealership.

Now, I have more Mobilube PTX than I need so I would be happy to sell some to fellow Rennlisters for what I paid plus package/shipping. Send me a private message if interested.

Not sure but those are the only 2 oils I would put in the gearbox.

For our street GT3's needs, I was told by more than one Porsche Turner that it's the same gear oil.

That's what I was told as well but the formulations are slightly different according to the spec sheets.

I asked about a Porsche AG document listing an equivalent and came up with nothing, including no technical bulletins like we had for engine oils.

I have a stock transaxle and did not want to guess.

Maybe b/c they only have the PCNA listing and the Delvac is a PMNA suggestion?

Seems to make a bit of a metallic noise no when turning. Could have just been my imagination. I only drove the car home from the shop. I'll report back with a better description soon.

PET calls for the PTX part #, but we've got
two bottles in Parts w/ the same p/n's, one says PTX other one says SHC.

My diff is now making a bit of a chirp or squeel type sound when turning. Normal?

Is it coming from the diff, or is it tire sound from the diff working?
