In forward or reverse? Is it speed dependent?

When I had my GT3, it clattered and clunked around tight turns, and the diff worked perfectly. It was when they got quiet (because the clutches stopped grabbing) that you knew they were worn out.

Seems to only be at slower speed around tight turns. It's like a faint clunky metallic sound. The description is horrible I know....

Sorry if I missed it but is this the stock diff? Is it recently replaced?

have you had it tested recently? I noticed mine was shot almost immediately. The biggest "troublesome" sound I heard was coming out of a very tight low speed corner onto a straight (Oak Tree at VIR). It was a clunky grinding sound. Sure enough, we opened the diff and the clutch packs were cracked. Don't get this sounds confused with the diff working properly though. When I installed the PMNA Cup clutch packs, the car would make a very mechanical sound under similar situations but it was almost a wheel hop when the pavement was uneven like the diff was locking but the wheel couldn't keep up with the slip angle.

Thanks for that description. I checked the diff out when I first bought the car and it seemed to be fine. I'll get the car up this weekend and confirm that it is operating correctly.

Interesting and confusing. Documents I have show.

Josh, your differential seems to be worn out. Find a 1979 Datsun (that is an old Nissan) 510 and replace the differential with it. You will find that to be a better fit for your driving habits.
OR You can drive it into the Willamette river (as discussed) and all your worries will go away!

Jack up one rear wheel, spin it by hand and feel for approx 10 - 12 lbs of pressure to turn it. If there is not much pressure to spin it, have it checked. Rememeber, we have 3 track days this month (2 weeks), so you better get a move on.

We can always take it apart at the track, just to see whats in there? You might miss a session.

Or I could just take it to your shop and tell them to fill it with whatever they find out back...

Oh, that's cold.
They said it was "lubricant" and after I added some kitty litter, Obama's stimulas package and wood chips, it seems to be fine!
Heck, my LSD has never felt better.
Good times.

Update.

One Rennlist member bought some Mobilube PTX oil from me and he is happy with the results. His previous oil change was done using a different lubricant. Now, with the Mobilube PTX he noticed an immediate improvement in cold temperature shifting.

Send me a private message if you are interested in obtaining the PTX.
