Default How do I trick the OBD/DME that the airbag is present with a cup wheel???

Title says it all. Without an airbag since the car has the cup wheel and quick release, the AIRBAG WARNING light always is on. Problem is that it will throw a code when hooked up for state inspection.

IIRC, some have used a transistor, etc..

Just need to figure out how to get the car to believe there is an airbag.

TIA!

n/c free advice that would cost you hundreds elsewhere ...

1.8 ohm resister connected in between the 2 wires to fool the computer.
That's what I had my mechanic do and then use the reset tool to clear the error code. Works like a charm.

Dumb question, but where does one get this 1.8ohm resistor?

Dell, are you thinking ahead, or is someone buying "the beast"?
Radio Shack on the resistor.
Chris, that is so cool that you were able to answer that question. Gotta love Rennlist and all the support.

Rob, your car looks sweet "screaming" through that corner with the big tree overhanging.

Chris,

Thanks for posting that answer. I've been trying to figure that out myself. Awesome!

Did you take any pics of the resistor and how you connected it?

Can you not just reprogram the ecu to not expect one?

sadly I am mechanically challenged and my tech did the install.. so no pics...

I can verify that it does work though...

I had an AB light and the dealer said it had to do with the seat belt receptacle etc... so they shut that off permanently... tey said the AB light signal was not coming from the steering wheel so the resistor did its job.

I got my resistor from Gert. First I tried to remove the bulb, but...it's an LED, so no luck there. I'm trying to wire the horn to a unused button in the dash

Can't you get a pushbutton horn for the centre of the wheel?

Thanks. It one of my favorite shots of my favorite track, VIR. That turn is called Oak Tree and it's great fun.

See the wing up/down factory rocker switch above my wiper stalk in this pic... that is my horn...
