Joe,

I'm sure you've thought of it, but seems to me you might be a great candidate for 996 turbo S. Quiet, smooth and plenty of action when you want it.

Cheers,

Fred

Joe, go for a ride in a car with muffler bypass pipes and yours will seem way too quiet by comparison.

If you got the money for the 7 spend it. If you save it for kids they will spend it anyway. Being the age you are is more the reason to buy it. Anyone can buy an S. As far as turbo's go, they are the love of my life but scary on resale. Just my 02. Drive them all and decide for yourself what fits.

for track use, 7 is slightly better than 6
for street, the 7gt3 is MILES or rather LIGHT YEARS ahead of the 6. i needed to break in my 6's LSD, i hate driving it. i had my neighbor drive it for 500miles. that's how much i loathe the car on streets. now, joe, if u buy a 997s THEN upgrade to a 7gt3, your loss will be even bigger.

What's wrong with getting back on the track? You can do that with a 7S or GT3!

Been in Larry Cable's old car, and I totally agree.

Due to my motorcycle accident, I now have limited use of my right foot. The accident was in 3/07, and just had surgery this past January. Still in recovery mode, and will be for another 4-5 months. I know I would be uncomfortable out there knowing someone else was out there impaired like me. Once recovered, I'm sure I won't be comfortable on the track.

Besides, I don't want to put out another $700-1000 per event for insurance.

(mike1111, I can easily afford the $, but would rather put it elsewhere.)

Well my hat goes off to you Joe. Almost 65 and having a wicked ride like yours..... Hope to be like you when I reach those wonderful years. Hope you find the perfect car for your needs and like others have said, spend the money cause it wont be any good once you're six feet under.

understood, there is an older gentleman in Fl who is super fast in a tip 996 turbo. I could not keep up with him when I had my 500+ 911 turbo at Sebring. Just a thought

If you're patient, the delta will shrink. Although I think you're right, you need to hear the stock mufflers again, that might be all that's needed.

i just want to throw out there... its incredibly hard to go from such a SPECIAL car like a gt3 to your typical everyday 911, whether or not you track or dont track gt3's (i tracked both my 6gt3's). i did it, and yes the 997s was a great car, it fell short to me most likely because of my "gt3 experience"

once you have that experience, it's really hard to accept the 997s street and track. if the gt3 really does have to go... then dont get another porsche, unless of course it's a 997 gt3 like others have said! instead, consider a new m3 coupe or AMG type car.

Will do. I will be out there in 10 days, but not yet sure how much time I'll have on this trip. Would love to connect. Cheers

Joe... my car has stock exhaust, but with the 1/2 cage the interior sound-proofing is somewhat compromised. I'll be at t-hill next weekend with GGR or we can connect at SR some Saturday (?)
