Default Need Ride in Stock 6GT3-SF Bay Area

Anyone in the SF Bay Area have a stock 996 GT3 in which I can get a ride?

I've been seriously considering selling my 6GT3, and buying a 997S. Drove a 997S yesterday for an extended period, and liked it a lot. But, of course, it doesn't have the edge of the GT3.

Now that I'm not tracking, my GT3 seems more than a bit rough and noisy for a weekender. The more solid ride won't go away. However, it occurs to me that some of the noise may be the Cargraphic mufflers, and WEVO mounts and rollbar transmitting a lot of that noise into the cabin. I'm interested in hearing what a stock 6GT3 sounds like as I don't recall (old age, you know).

Anyone?

Understood, many have told me that, however, I'm an older guy (near-65), have had plenty of excitement in my life (23 years in the Army, most with Special Forces and Special Ops), have tracked since '94, autox'd since '86, and it's time to slow down. I'm not ready for the likes of an M3/E55/RS4. And I firmly believe that if you're not tracking the GT3, you have no idea what the car is about.

I understand where you're coming from, a lot of people who buy track dedicated cars eventually need a contrasting "cruiser" or easier to ingress/egress street car. sometimes after a long day at the track in any of the cars the last thing I want to do is drive for 80+ miles in my RS with it's bucket seats, but I love the way it steers...

A stock 996gt3 with no cage/exhaust/etc will be much more normal but you're still going to have the same springy/ rough ride...maybe the best car to get into would be a 997S with a supercharger!

Frankly, as I've considered this further (as I've been doing for months), the rough ride may be the lesser issue for me. It's the noise that's bothersome. Because of too much time in airplanes (lots of jumps), and under the tubes firing artillery (two tours in Nam), my hearing isn't the best. The added noise brought into the cabin is irritating. However, for my wife, it's the rough ride. Hell, maybe I ought to just get a wheelchair.

No, no, no. Not unless the wheelchair has a Porsche emblem on it.

My best friend lives in Moss Beach. I'll have to keep an eye open for the yellow GT3 when I go visit again. Usually out there on business once a month.

When you're next out here, drop me a line. If you have the time, we can go for a little ride (in the GT3 or whatever I may have by then) and some food.

sounds to me like you need a 997 GT3.

ask around, it rides better and is quieter too.... more refined im told.

Dont give up GT3 for a Carrera 2.... even an "S"............. keep your pride and buy the 997 GT3

they got sunroofs ya' know

That being said, when im your age i probably wont be driving a Porsche 911 coupe.... probably a big Benz or something..... LOL!
but id like to think i still will be in a 911 at that point.....

Have driven a couple of 7GT3s. I'd go for a 7GT3, too, but am unwilling to part with another $40-50K for that car. Not worth the incremental "improvements," IMO. The 997S is on the radar screen for now. Thanks

That might work if I can't find a more local ride. Only problem is I'm afraid I'd be tempted to get back on the track again.

if sound is an issue, taking off the cargraphic mufflers would help, lol

Joe - just go for the 7GT3. Wasting time and money toying with 997S. Trust me.

I'm certain that you will be satisfied with it (at this time) in stock form. I test drove a completely stock car a while back and I was surprised at how well mannered it was. I think that one of the key elements was the ride height (it looked high by GT3 standards).
