Default Miss Shift Blew up Clutch Damaged Transmission

Shfiting fron 4th to ? but overeved and clutch is in pieces
in transmission casing. Have Porsche warranty but I am not sure if they cover over rev. Repair shop Farnbacherloles
in Conn said need new transmisssion at 12K. 2004 GT3
with 19k miles. Anyone had experience with Porsche warranty program ? I also have an additional coverage with
Warranty Direct.

Help ! I can't believe this happened !

Wow..these threads usually start off..."I have a friend who...."

If its a new gearbox, I'd call some of the Porsche dismantlers. You can probably get one for 1/2 price of new.

Hey photo25,

Truly sorry to hear about your problem. I don't know about the street car, but the 996 Cup is designed so that the clutch comes apart minimizing any damage to the engine/transmission. I would think there is the possibility that your transmission might be fine.

How do you know there is damage to the transmission?

This recently happened to someone else here (I'll let him speak for himself) and I think his tranny was fine, but the pressure plate got destroyed (as it's designed to do in this case).

I sure would look into getting the gear box fixed before I shelled our 12K for a new one.

Repair shop update 4 small cracks about 1-2mm and one small hole in bell housing can't weld too much heat will warp casing. Recomends used transmission about 6k. Porsche will not cover because of over rev.

Anyone know of a used GT3 Transmission ?

Question is it possible to order a casing only and use the gears from the damage unit ?

Gears are expensive and with all the work in getting the box out etc its going to be a false economy to put parts of dubious condition/life in. Also if its gone badly enough wrong to crack the casing I'd be worried about the rest of it!

Think I'd get a refurbed box or new one and maybe specify the shorter final drive in your shoes. Always nice to get an upgrade in the face of adversity so you get something for the spend!

Hope your engine is ok and won't let go in 5k miles...

You need the Porsche Motorsport tranny doctor. Consider a R&P. Send the gear box to Brian Coppins.

Thanks DanH,
I had a leak down test and everything check out Ok. But I see your point
a rebuild or new will be the way to go. I called Sunset Porsche they want 11k
for a Factory Reman and new is 18k. Not sure what a rebuild would cost.

from 4th there is only one bad place to go. On the bright side the GT3 motor is as bullet prove as they come.

If the tranny had not let go, the engine would be toast. That's 35K or so. Better this way, although it still hurts. Did you ask Suncoast for a quote?
