GT3 Lip spoiler - what to do.
I just moved to a new apartment building and a new city (LA) where there are several dips that are not GT3 friendly. In order to get in to my parking garage I need to take a very strange path to avoid scraping my front spoiler. It seems wherever I go I can't avoid situations that scrap the lip spoiler very hard.
Aren't these impacts going to loosen the screws, such that one day the thing will just fly off and damage the car? Has anyone had it removed?

I just drove mine in the garage and had actually the same problem. Before I owned a 996 C2 which was in fact lower than the Gt3. But the lip is just a pain in the a**
So mine came of already first time I pulled in my parking lot. Right now I am looking for another garage to rent out - those Duplex Garages in the Center of my town (Dusseldorf) are very common. I wound't be afraid of scraches at all but the center screw is just some sort of plastic and you will loose that lip easily.
I wouldn't remove it, the car is acting very strange without that freaking lip.
...so I guess you have to live with it.
Regards
Chris

The splitter is held in place by plastic "push in" screws or tabs. They are actually supposed to break away in the event of the splitter being hit. I had to replace some of mine after I hit something.
The new ones I picked up at Porsche looked a little different than the original ones and they said it was the newest ones offered. Splitter's are not cheap, so if you want to take it off and save it, pretty easy to clip the plastic tabs for removal.

I remember a few saying that they run without it, and you might be ok if you stay away from extra-legal speeds, however, the aero information I've gathered seems to indicate that a small lip can have big effects like a significant decrease in front lift AND a decrease in drag. It pays to keep air out from under the car.

I would never ever recommend to take that lip of. Of course - much people are changing all kind of things on there cars but if you are going fast you feel every changings. Downforce is what we need most on our cars since the most weight is just rear!
just my 2cents...

Take it off and put it in your closet. The car is fine below ca. 135. I put it back on for the fast tracks (Watkins) and leave it off for everything else. You don't need it at all.

I have the RS spoiler, which is worse on the dips. I can appreciate your dilemma. I visit family in LA, and after one time, never take the GT3 down there. Your "dips" are Grand Canyons.
I have spares in my garage, both RS and standard. They're consumables.

my rubs about 10x a day every day.
as long as it's low speed, it will not fall off.
you do need to get a new piece every year or so, else it just looks bad.

I have removed mine on the side of the freeway after the center pulled away. I just stepped on it and off it comes. Then when I get home I put it back on. It will happen to you at some point. The only time I have had it come off all the way is at the track and >125mph.

I have lost a lot of screws. And replaced them. I end up forgetting the integrity of the front lip. That's part of the cost of having a GT3 for daily driving.

Mooty: THe price at the dealer has been that high for >2 years. The motorsport (RS) which you have is better and much less.
PJ: good to see you got the car turned around quickly.

I don't ever remember them being $100. The Cup splitter (wider and thicker) purchased form places like TRG, etc, runs $150. The OEM splitter which is thinner and narrower is just over $200 from most dealers. Not sure where the $360 price tag was manufactured for PJS but that is laughable!
