I just purchased a 04 with 8k miles. It is mint but a I want roll bar, seats, harnesses etc! Bet I end of spending 10k and yours all ready has it. I paid 76k so you are big dollars less. Fix a few of those details and you probably have a better deal than me. No buyers remorse your car rocks!!

I just spent all day at the track and everything with this car is in tip top shape. I found that my rears were running a little hot on the inside so I will get an alignment with corner balancing this week.

I am quite happy as it is really well setup and a very solid car. What a blast.

I even swapped cars with a buddy's 993 Turbo (well track prepped) to get a bit of a comparison and I can say that Porsche really nailed it with this car. It is quite an amazing machine

What is done is done, now get the car properly aligned with good tires, brake pads, fluids and just drive the crap out of it.

Enjoy her fully.

The 993 Turbo is a really amazing machine, but is quite different in so many ways from the GT3.

For starters, the clutch is nothing like the GT3. It is so light in comparison, and has a totally different feel. Plus with the redline at 6K it has a completely different feel for shifting. I did not push it past 5500 as it was not my car, but it did handle quite well with the sift points easy to find quickly. I ran the track in 3 rd,4 th where I ran the GT3 in 2nd ,3rd. The engine just did not wind up so much as the GT3 and I preferred not to shift 3 gears as I have two gears on the brain on that track. The 993 is fast, but it does take a bit for the boost to kick in and then you run out of room on the revs.

The exhaust note was so subdued compared to the GT3, obviously. A lot more refined, I would say.

The suspension is quite a bit different, again more refined.

I would say the GT3 is much more aggressive, and less refined although both cars are quite capable and loads of fun. I have no regrets with the GT3. It is a complete blast to drive.

The track I is a 1.8 mile track with lots of elevation changes and some technical turns.

It is a brand new track that just opened within the last few months between Austin and San Antonio. I live in Austin, although my profile from still has an old address...

Glad to see you putting that GT3 on the track so quickly. Nice job!

The coilovers on this car are Eibach 2.2" I.D
rears 0800.225.0700
Lo 8
Di 2.25
c 700
Lc 4.02
Sc 3.98
Fc 2788
Wt 3.87

Fronts 700.225.0550
Lo 7
Di 2.25
c 550
Lc 3.35
Sc 3.65
Fc 2005
Wt 2.86

With this setup, I can assume the stock suspension settings are no longer correct. Does anyone have an opinion with this setup for an alignment?

Martin if you run north of San Diego in Willow SPrings or Buttonwillow in the summer you might want to
run Mobil 15-50w. Its a little better in some of the heat we deal with up here.

Martin,

We have all been told that the 996 GT3 is "bullet proof", but no one really knows how bullet proof as it is subjective and driver/usage dependent.

We know that your car has a lot of track miles and yet it appears to be solid as a rock. It also sounds like you will be tracking the car quite a bit. I think we'd all be interested in the progress of your car as it seems (I could be wrong) to be one of the 996 GTs with the highest mileage with several happy track days ahead. Aside from the obvious consumables, the extended life of the car, engine, drivetrain is what I'm most interested in. Thanks for sharing your story with others.
