Martin,
Congratulations on your purchase. I saw it on the market, and it looks like a great deal, with the roll bar, etc. I like the color. With the money you saved, you can address any issues that might come up, or you can personalize it to meet your needs. I am new to GT3-dom myself, and know how excited you must be. Let us know what your experiences are. And...become a Rennlist Member.

I got it for $65,350. Although possibly a mistake in buying it, it seemed like a good deal despite a few little issues here and there. I did not get a PPI as I got a copy of a 09/19/07 Certified Pre-Owned inspection checklist that showed a clean bill of health. At 6/1/07 it had a 30k service plugs and brakes. The CPO inspection showed no collision damage, but I did get some docs that the chin spoiler was replaced.
It has the wrong battery, the shifter is cracked, front tires are just ok, a few rock chips up front as pointed out by others. Seemed like a really good deal at that price with the roll cage, seats and Eibach 0800.225.0700 springs. (not sure what those are)

Welcome! And don't forget to take advantage of the search function. The 996 GT3 archives are full of pertinent info as many of the "early adopters" have fought and conquered some of the issues you might see. Many of them have since moved on to the 997 GT3 realm, but we have plenty of new owners discovering the pleasure of the 996 GT3's "rawness"...
When I have any technical questions, I find that the "search" function answers at least 50% of them, and the rest I post...
This Rennlist community is very informed and intelligent. I really value their feedback. Welcome aboard!

Maybe I am a bit of a sucker on this, but I suppose I can always get an aftermarket warranty to cover possible catastrophic failures.
After reading the posts about this car and going over the car in detail I can say that it was in a frontal impact but not enough to cause structural damage. The front bumper shocks were pressed in less than 1/2 inch from the markings on the bumper shocks. It seems this very minor frontal impact took out the front bumper and then it was replaced with the GT3 RS front bumper. According to the certification checklist they seemed to think it was minor enough to not count it against the CPO documentation. I seriously doubt they missed this minor incident as they checked off "no signs of collision damage/repairs" at 25,188 Miles and it is now at 25,580 Miles including my 200 or so miles
Anyway, I will drive it around a bit and see how I like it despite what some feel might be a somewhat checkered past. It seems to run strong and is under warranty for a couple more months with lots of new upkeep items such as plugs, 30K service, rear tires, etc.
It has seemed to have seen quite a bit of track time, but that is what I bought it for... I did not purchase it to get groceries.
I have a bit of mixed feelings on this one, but it seems pretty solid with a great track prep. Hard to ask for much more.

Martin - I'd recommend taking it to a "GT3" expert shop for a look-over. I can't think of one near San Diego, but I am sure some other Rennlisters could make recommendations. If worse comes to worse, take it to Kent at Premier Sportscar Service in Las Vegas. He is a GT3 street/Cup specialist, and could easily address any concerns. You have purchased one hell of an automobile. When you get it on the track, I can assure you that your face will hurt as your grin will be stretched from ear to ear.
These cars truly rock. Get it on the track ASAP, and let the mod process begin...
Best of luck, and be sure to ask this board lots of questions. We are here to help...
