Don't want to cut holes for cannisters but wanted double adjustable shocks. Looks like JRZ RS is about it. Can be ordered with your choice of springs. Looking at 10K/14K as my best choice. Mostly a track car...

JRZ

Any other optons I have missed? Opinions of the spring rates and options are welcome. Thanks all, looking forward to the feedback! Especially with JRZ.

no need to drill holes. The holes are already there for the remote canisters.

10/14? How did you come to those rates? I wouldn't rec'd those at all. Maybe 10/12 at the most. Personally, I run 9/11 and find that to be the perfect balance. Then again, driving style will dictate alot of your choices.

NJ, that's cool. How much maintencance is there on the gas pressure? No one near here to service them.

Dell,
Thanks for the feedback.
Don't know whom but one of the west coast tuners uses a 600/800# setup. 10/14 kg = 564/787#. For sure I'd rather be more compliant than too stiff on the spring rates, just don't want to end up wishing for more spring at the first event and having to go through the remove/replace/align/balance process twice.

Here is some info I have gathered:
stock: 228 linear/540 progressive (312# diff. F/R) 788# total
450/600 linear
530/680 linear (gtdrei runs this option)
Manthey's suspension 340 linear / 980 progressive on KW DA shocks
600/800 linear (popular setup by a left coast tuner)
750/1000 linear "what I'm running" (don't know who...)
600/900 linear (GT2)
04GT3Cup runs 1200/1500lbs

Looking at these # it appears that 10/14K is about the middle of the road. More that the 9/11K sure but not a lot. The other question is the front to rear differential, 200 to 250# on stiffer springs is more common. The 10/14 is 223#, about in the middle.
If you really like the 9/11 set up balance do you think the 10/14 may be too much rear spring?

To make it even more confusing you have to decide if you're going to look at percentage of change front to rear or the actual number.

Say you go from 228/540 to say a 600/900 setup. you've still got the ~300 spring split front to rear but you're percentage of chagne is much more drastic from where the car was balance wise stock. The 600/900 setup has 3 times the stock front spring rate but not even double the rear rate. One would think that this would lead to an inbalance.

And not to confuse you even more but wasn't there someone here who had their car setup by a major race shop who had more front spring than rear. (around 1100/900 IIRC).

Best bet is to decide on a shock first and then work with them for what rates have been proven with their product.

FWIW my C2 has rates of 455/915 and I find the car very well balanced and easy to drive with these rates.

Dell, yea I know, I know... sorry.

Andy,

Great points on the % of difference from front to rear. And I saw the setup with the front rate higher than the rear. Just odd to me.
So then is the weight difference front to rear to keep handling neutral dependant on a flat weight of say 300# like stock or a %: ie. if you double front spring rate then you double rear spring rate. Most of the sample rates difference is between 200-300# over a wide range. Makes one think its a flat weight difference not the %.
Thanks for the feedback! It all helps.

With that said, I run a 900lb front and 1100lb rear. Absolutely love the balance. But then again the car is setup for my style and well as the suspension working with it (Motons).

Dell,
Those rates are up there. How would you rate the ride? What "style" is that set up best suited for?

Andy, Your rates are higher proportinately in the rear than most GT3 setups. Do you use stock C2 swaybars?

Then is what I am seeing here 600/900# range is more compliant and 900/1100# stiff but not too stiff? That's higher that what I would have expected.

Thanks all!

David,
My car has GT3 sways (1 from full stiff front and 1 from soft rear)...but is also missing 100hp which can be critical for corner exit balance of the car.

I wish I had the answer on raw split vs. percentage but I don't. The more I tried to reserach it when I was picking suspension the less confident I was that there's really a good answer other than just going with a proven system and seeing how it drives. I was scared that this setup would oversteer and was very pleased that it's balanced well. IF it makes any difference I wanted to do Motons and was convinced that 600/900 was the rate I wanted for motons. Budget and lack of extensive experience with the 996 platform kept me in a more traditional coilover setup (H&R Clubsport).

On the RS's, you need to decide if you're running tenders or helpers. Don't put just a straight spring on there. Oh man this is quite the discussion I feel coming on. How do you plan to use the car, and what kind of tires and suspension equipment will you also run? Then I can answer, I used to do a lot of these kits. Btw, big no no no on H&R springs. They coil bind and lose their rates. Run Eibach for best results with race springs. Also, do 2.25" ID's for increased wheel well clearance and ease of parts availability.

On your fronts, I recommend a flat washer roller bearing kit so when you turn the wheel left/right there's no "boing" sound as the springs are twisted.

On the nitrogen pressure issue, do you have an 4x4 shops near you? They run nitro shocks all day long in the desert and trails.

Austin,
Thanks for the info and your input. Helper springs were the plan but not everybody specs them. Eibachs for sure! I like the roller bearing kit suggestion. Isn't that even good for the rear?
Car: use-track & terrorizing the street, Nitto NT-01 tires, TRG rear toe links & upper monoball mounts(from you), GT3 seats, belts, sway bar droplinks, WEVO motor mounts. I prefer frim suspensions for my driving style which is fast but smooth.
That is most likely all I will do this year. Hopefully not famous last words...
4X4 shops, in Kentucky? You kidding???
Liking the 11/16Kg spring set, your thoughts?
Any suggestions on where to get this put together would be appreciated.
Does this pic show all I need less the helpers & bearings?
