I find it very hard to believe that the wing by itself lists for over 8K when several people have called dealers and been quoted retail just over 4K over the last couple weeks. As Joe said, that must include the decklid as well.

No Joe, it is just the wing. Porsche has been raising the prices of the CF products like crazy. The 997 GT3RS carbon wing was $1300 in Sept. 07. It is now close to $4K. The 996 carbon wing went to $4404 and the latest 2/1 price list shows it at $8508.

Time to put the RS wing in the basement and put the stock wing back on as it is way too pricey to keep on the car.

My post was made jokingly but for folks like me who drive to the track are you willing to leave car at your hotel overnight when all it takes is a couple of twists and 'poof' $8k gone.

That's why I lock my car up in my enclosed trailer EVERY night and drive my SUV to my accommodations.
