Default Ram Air - FVD or GMG?

Hi

I'm considering adding a ram air spoiler to my '04 GT3. FVD offers a unit for $323, then I'd have to have it painted. Anyone have an idea what painting might cost? I'll assume I can do the install.

GMG Racing has a carbon fiber unit for $790. I think this might look good with my RS cf wing blade.

Anyone have either unit who can provide comments on quality?

Thanks

ltcjmramos:

I purchased one, two actually, from FVD and had it painted and installed. The quality is okay and painting and prep work was $200 which sounds ridicules! The first one came in cracked and really beat-up looking. The second one was much better but I would say that the overall quality is low and perhaps inconsistent. Lastly, the fit to the deck lid isn’t perfect but not so bad as to be a distraction. It should be a $75 item.

FVD was great about taking the first one back and sending out a replacement immediately while covering all shipping costs. As a result, I have a lot of good things to say about them.

Did you install it yourself? If not, what was the cost of install, too?

Thanks

I did install it myself. The kit comes with some bolts (screws) that require drilling through the deck lid to mount the scoop. In lieu of drilling the body shop advised that 3M automotive double sided tape would hold the part with no problems. If you use the double sided tape method, there is an accelerant also made by 3M that increases the sticking power of the tape but you’ll need some help to properly place the scoop. You only have one shot at it! So far so good.

I'll probably go with the GMG cf unit.

I just snapped these in my incredibly messy garage. In person the scoop looks like you would expect. In some of these pictures - not so good.

Wonder about the quality of these? Anyone with any experience with them?

$195!!! Wow, hate to look a gift horse in the mouth, but I'd be leery.

Anyone in San Diego willing to go inspect the pieces? According to their site, their at 111 W. Olive Dr. # D.
