Default Does anyone know about this GT3 at Barrier Porsche (WA state)

Dealership told me it was a 2 owner California car, went to an auction and Barrier Porsche in Bellevue, WA bought it.

It's been sitting on their lot for the last 90 days now so they're ansy... I have the service sheet in front of me and page 1 of 7 starts with "before CPO can happen, need to address long list of items."

But most of these items seem to be cosmetic, afterall its an 04 with 20k miles on it so its a "used car". They do say in the service sheet "no DME overrev's"

Hoping someone might know a little more about this car... thanks!

If it helps any... according to carfax, it looks like the car lived in the Bay Area (Walnut Creek, CA) for most of it's life 04-07 before being auctioned off in Sept 07 to Barrier Porsche up here in Bellevue, WA.

EX:I was there yesterday when the rep was starting the car up. I do not know the car but if the car is CPO Barrier will have gone through it with great detail. Ask Gary, Jeff, or Tim in the service department about the car. Tim is the lead mechanic. The service department is the best I have ever had.

Hi roberga, I was hoping you'd chime in

Yes, I was at Barrier yesterday as well and checked out the car. They printed out 7 pages of service performed on the car before it could pass for CPO. I will give the service dept a call to get more details....

I'm torn because I have a 2007 997 C2S in pristine showroom condition with 5k miles on the odo. I'm the only owner bought from Barrier and they are giving me a nice deal to trade in my 997 for this 996 GT3. Having a hard time pulling myself together to trade in my 997 for this older, more "beat-on" 996 GT3....

But this is what the GT3 does to you... makes you do crazy things to be with one again

Depends on what you plan to do with the car. For me, it was a no brainer. I am a track ***** and had no problem at all investing 100K+ (car, track mods, etc.) on a car that will give satisfaction and reward on track that a C2S doesn't even shake a stick at. If you want to cruise around town keep your C2S like I did my CAB if financially possible.

Wish I could keep the C2S and add a GT3 but already we have too many cars for garage space... wife would never let that happen too!

I am a track junkie as well and miss the true raw feel of the gt3, on track and on street. I had a GT3 prior to this 997 C2S and I miss the GT3. I've learned through this experience that I really do belong in a GT3 so that is not the problem. Problem is.... going from a new car to a used car (esp one with 20k miles). Maybe it shouldn't be a problem at all.

You'll forget it is a "USED" car the second you wail past 8K rpms and have trouble wiping that **** eating grin off your face

Mine has 21K miles, probably 40/60 track/street, and I'd have no problem selling the car in good conscience to anyone here since I know how well it's been maintained. And, I believe, locals knowing the car would likewise have no issue with buying it (if it were for sale, which it's not). So, I don't see mileage as a problem.

As you're doing, the trick is to get info on the car, CPO'd or not. Any info on overrevs? That's one indicator on how well it was driven. You mention most of the items "corrected" in order to get CPO'd were cosmetic, but that's also an indicator of how well the car was cared for. Since you say most were cosmetic, I assume some were mechanical. Track abuse (as opposed to "use"), possibly. I'd dig into those.

HAHAH, so true!

So I made a few calls... local body shop confirmed repainting the front bumper due to rock chips. They confirm no other issues so that's good news.

Dealership confirmed no over-rev's registered on the DME... so that helps confirm no major track abuse.

I also spoke to the service manager and he was kind enough to walk me through each of the items. Truly stand-up operation they have going on over there in the service dept.

I have yet to drive the car! Obviously that'll be my next step and I'm hoping to drive it later today... any advice on what to look for during the test drive?

So I test drove the car today and it went quite well... clutch was like new, gear shifting was great with no grinding, motor pulled strong up to redline, everything seemed great.

I've gave them my offer and waiting to hear if they accept or counter. I'm also looking at a couple other GT3's outside of the state to explore all options.

Hope to be again, a GT3 owner!
