It will be interesting to see what happens to prices, once the 997 GT3 MkII is announced. I think the current 997GT3's will take a big depreciation hit (especially the RS's which are still trading for way over MSRP). Not sure that the 996 GT3's can fall much further - they have fallen a ton over the last 18 mos.
I think alot depends on the state of the economy and also will be interesting if Porsche drastically increases prices for new cars, due to the weak dollar.

It's an interesting statement, but first, congratulations on the purchase. As far as perceived value and prices paid, there are who-knows-how-many factors involved in this equation. It's my belief that in the long term, the 996 GT3 will be a very sought-after Porsche. What that means in terms of value, I can not say, but this is possibly the neatest 911 since the '73 Carrera RS.

Yes, Tom (BoulderGT3) is a gentleman and his cars are well cared for. I almost bought that car too.

As another data point, I was offered a 2004 GT3 with 26k in Silver with Leather GT3 seats for $60k last week. Didn't buy it (maybe should have) and now it's going to the wholesale auctions.
This is the car (no damage history):

Rob in VA, Love the dead horse graphic....and yes this has been, and will continue to be discussed, as this is the place to do that. After all, every dead horse deserves another beating
Congrats to you J Walton for a very nice car, one which you had the good sense to pull the trigger on. Well done. Enjoy the car in good health!!! I love that color too.

My question to those who are speculating about the values; what If the price difference between 996 GT3 and 997 GT3 were within $25,000, which car would you get?

Overall, I'd say yes without hesitation. 996s will not be remembered as beautiful 911s, but the GT3 is great to look at and mechanically awesome. The NA high revving engine is perhaps their best ever, and the driving sensations are all there. Of the 911s I've had it's certainly the best, the only real knock I have is the quality of the materials in the interior.

Are you coincidentally shipping your GT2 out from long Island this weekend? Reason for asking is that Intercity has to go to Long Island for a pickup before delivering my car this weekend in Delaware. Thought our two cars might be stable buddies for a trip south through New Jersey. Jon in Delaware
