I noticed that on page 67 (actually page 6 of the .pdf) of the MkII article, the writer states that the wheels are forged. Is this true? I always thought they are cast.

I thought they were cast as well but I actually posted a retraction yesterday in a "GT3 Wheel" thread over on the 996 board the correction that instead of cast, they are forged.

Hate to be the killjoy, but copyright infringement could get Rennlist in trouble...just keep it off list via PM/email.

I don't profess to be fluent in copyright law but I thought that owner of the material has "fair use" of that material as long as it does prevent the owner of the material that sold the license (a magazine issue) to be harmed financially. By providing "reading" of a single issue rather than the entire magazine I would have assumed to be kosher.

However, I (and I am sure Chuck) would gladly take the material off the thread if we are in fact violating copyright law. Last thing I want to do is hurt Rennlist b/c of my ignorance of the law.

Done. Although I think there is no problem at all to have the scans linked here.

The wheels are not truly forged. Magazine editors are not infallible in providing info. I think I remember reading somewhere that they are cast with a stronger process than normal casting, but not a true forged wheel. I will try and find where I read that. It was in some Porsche literature I think. I am not infallible either, so I could be wrong, but before I got my 996 GT3, I read every bit of info I could get my hands on about the car.

I think that's correct re a special casting process and don't believe they are forged.

I think it was some type of low pressure (or maybe it was high pressure?) casting technique.
