Nitto NT01's

Sorry for the long post….
I asked Chris Cervelli (insanely good driver/set up genius/driver coach) about heat cycles and he said to think of them like glasses of water. Some gulps are bigger than others. A pro racer doing an enduro will drink a lot more water out of that tire than a white student in a 20 min DE session. I thought that was very interesting and something to keep in mind. Some drivers take a lot bigger gulps! Not only because of speed /sliding / duration of sessions, but also driving style. I enjoy sliding the car so I can be a bit harder on tires than some smoother drivers.
When I first started with RA-1s I was getting 50-60 HCs, the last three sets I used in 05/06 lasted 27-28 HCs.
Here is my tire experience/info, no Nitto info, sorry:
-Last three sets of shaved RA-1 lasted 27 or 28 HCs before frying out, some tread left. I haven’t experienced that Toyos are good down to the cords, although that is the general consensus I think.
-Last two sets of R6s lasted 15-16 HCs, fried, some tread left
-Only have 8 HCs on my BFG R-1s, hoping for 20.
At VIR I got the same best time (via DL-1) to the hundredth w/ the R1s vs the R6s…but it was much hotter (+10-15F and more humid) on the R1 day, so I would like to think they are about a second faster. They feel very strong (tons of grip).
The R6s and R1s were both 3 full seconds faster than the shaved RA-1s at VIR, and about 4.5 seconds faster than worn down full tread.
The R6s were only 1 second (almost exactly) faster than the RA-1s at the shorter Summit Point, but both most of those runs were on R6s w/ more than 15 HCs.
I am looking forward to running the R1s at Summit and hoping for another second. I have essentially (meaning only a tire improvement, not driver) been on a plateau at Summit Point for over 2 years. Maybe the R1s will just be another tire improvement, but also might give me more confidence in some corners, which is key....that is my hope at least.
I only had one set of MPSCs and they died an early death due to extreme rubbing. My times were faster on the RA-1s, but I was still getting used to them.
YMMV

Note: i also got lazy for about 8 weeks and didn't swap out wheels, so drove them on the street for maybe 2k miles in between track events

I've got about 2k miles on them including some track events I use these all the time and the ware is awsome they still look great! I run these on an 03 996tt 235f and 315r. I would recommend these tires for those that drive to and back from track events.

Adrian, why don't you run the 245 fronts? I run the 245/315 combo. I can't imagine the understeer your turbo has with all that extra weight up front and running 315 in rear. You could really benefit from the 245 running that 315 rubber in back
by the way, if you click the little icon that looks like a piece of paper in the bottom right of your post you can "edit" your post so you don't have to submit a new post to clarify an error

thanks for the hint! can't remember the reason for going with 235 vrs 245 up front i think it had something to do with overall tire diamter (height) don't forget I'm awd and I did not want to have psm issues as far as handling i have my car set up pretty good feels very nuetral! I have jic coilovers, gt3r sways and solid bushings front and rear and a few other goodies

David,
Picked up the MPSC's. First session on Tuesday this week. 1.0201 a 1.5 second improvement vs the Pilot Sports. Then my timer crapped out and I think, emphasize think, I may have gotten into the 1.01's. Now we will see if they last. Hope to see you at WGI Oct 22-23.

Wow, where did you find the time, Westbend and the downhill or somehwere else? (Were talking about Lime Rock for those not from the Northeast.)
I won't make WGI as I have a London trip planned for biz.

Too bad about London. Good luck. Hope the trip is worth it.
Mainly uphill and downhill although the left hander felt a lot better. As did the exit from Big Bend. So basically, everywere.

Tom, they are R comps.
The order of lap times all things being equal except tires (driver, car, etc.) and the tires being on their "fastest" and "grippiest" lap.
All are R-comps (each tire is probably 1-1.5 sec faster than the next on a typical 2min circuit)
1. R6
2. MPSC
3. NT01
Now if we look at longevity and bang for the buck
1. NT01 (40-50 HC's and best toward the end)
2. R6 (20-30 HC's)
3. MPSC (about 16 HC's and they are done)

Thanks Dell, you have been a big help. Because of your last thread I got a set and ran them last weekend at Sebring.
Grip was like MPSC, VERY greasy near 40psi.
For the $ and availability these will replaces cups and RA1's for me. will keep the hoosiers on the other wheel set.

Please pardon the N00b question - does street driving even figure into the HC count? This is assuming you don't drive in a way to tempt a jail sentence. I'm thinking of NT-01s for summer daily + track days and PS2s for winter and for times when there will be many summer weeks between track days.

David,
Remind me how you measured your ride height. I want to figure out if the 315's would work on my car since I lowered the suspension. Those 315's fit on the stock wheel, 18x11, right?

LVDell,
Thanks for posting. Do you run 315's on the 11" wheel? If so, what are your ride height measurements? Also, I assume you have no rubbing issues?
Thanks.
