Default 997 GT3 gear linkage in 996 GT3

I know there was talk of this transplant on here a couple of months ago. Did it ever happen?

If so how were the results? The 997 shift is so much more precise & faster, and yet the box is the same as far as I'm aware so it must be the linkage.

I put the B&M Trak Shifter in and it is very percise and fast.

Would you mind sharing some details in what parts were fitted and what is involved in the work please? Do you know if it dropped right in without any mods?

+2, and comments on whether or not it's a useful mod (not considering the $ and effort).

It's a direct replacement part, single assy, one part number.
The full extent of the challenge is just the fiddly process of removing the centre console. (And take note of the shifter position when reconnecting the cables.)
As for effectiveness, hard to say. I've not had the car on the track with the 997 GT3 shifter in place. I had planned on putting in the console delete (and cruise control) but, like many of these incidental projects, it's still in the box. : )

So an easy DIY then? You don't happen to know of any centre console removal guides or something like that do you?

Also are there any tricky adjustments that need to be made - I don't want to end up with a linkage I can't use to take the car to someone competent to adjust!

As long as you have torx bits, it's not a technical journey. One thing: you _must_ tape the parking hand-brake lever or it will get scratched by the edges of the centre console. The only other tips would be to say that in the 996, the coin holder thing is easily broken, but it does have to come out -- I "coax" it with a plastic lever. The snap-out panel on the driver side takes some dexterity and try to keep all the various sizes of screws arranged (screw driver holes in a piece of card makes for a great organiser tray to keep the screws arranged as they come off the car.) This is especially useful if, like me, you tend to leave the car in pieces for, oh, you know, a few years at a time ...)

If you check p-car.com, renntech, rennlist, 6spd, pistonheads etc., etc. you might find a DIY with some pics.

If you're doing the shifter assy, it's a good time to do the console delete (which is a piece of cake and makes the cabin look a little less like a Boxster and a little more like a 911 ... : )

Thanks all.

Have any of you also fitted the 996 Cup cables? Been offered this by a specialist over here. Not sure of the details, but apparently heavier duty and more precise etc.
