Sounds reasonable for the 98-01 Cup cars and the R, perhaps the RS also.
I wonder if they changed that to Cup cars later than 01 and the RSR's?

The numbers for each variation of the 996 factory race cars have supercessions and changes. Here's the info I have from cars in the shop today:

The crankcase collective number (includes both 1/2's) is 996.101.001.9A for R car and 9B for RS. Bottom line is the race car engine crankcase is a 996 number and you should check the individual numbers on the case 1/2's to verify what you're looking at.
For example, as an added twist, 2005 Cup shows number 996.101.022.90 in the book.

If you're referring to the case 1/2's they are:
996.101.197.0R
996.101.198.0R
These are same for R, RS, and Cup through '03. Likely also the same on RSR and all Cup 99-05, but we only have the R, RS, and Cup '01 and '03 cars readily viewable from the underside - in the air right now. Slight differences or updates can make for part number changes.

Austin

Do you have the CDROMs for the these cars. From memory, the block is a 964 part, at least up until 2004 - Werner Siegle showed me where the original part number is, the 996 number is 'added'.

I have also been asked 'What do you want us to put on the block', when getting a a rebuild done.

The Customer focus? Well, they've learned how to make money nowadays so I guess they'll do back flips if you just pay them enough

if a rebuilt 904 engine costs € 50,000 - one from the factory costs € 100,000. Why pay twice as much? Well you get a lot of after sales service, invitations to hard to get into fun rallies and races, but most importantly, you can get absolutely unbreakable provenance. So for the extra € 50,000 you get authenticity, and the attendant price premium.

If you go in through Tor 2 and enter the office to the left of the internal courtyard in the old building on the right as you go in, there is usually an historic engine that has been recreated on display.
