I'm personally not convinced that a 7 RS is faster than a 6 RS assuming equivalent rubber. My 2c.

I like the gentleman's candid assessment about his GT3 being only street driven. In this forum and in the internet where one can type big words and make bold claims, I am refreshed.

And it's OK to like both just as it's OK to like one over the other. For me, being a guy who has neither the talent, time, interest and/or money to try and put bread on the table by going around a track faster than the next guy - likely shared with 99.999999% of you guys -- the 997 GT3 is clearly the bread winner in the 911 stable. It's gorgeous, it can do the street and track better than the 996 GT3. Done.

I appreciate your comments, but I have to ask if you have driven both at the track ? I seems like the majority agrees that the 997 is the better street car,is it the better track car?
I also read that most people will never get to drive the 996 close to it's capability. Maybe the 997 with all the electronics makes it safer or easier to drive fast.
Answers from people who have tracked both would be very enlightening.

I just got back from two days at the track with my 997 GT3RS. For the past 3 years I have been driving a 996 GT3.

My first time out, I was disappointed with the RS it understeered so badly that guys in 996GT3's were outrunning me easily.

I then realigned the car. The most recent event was rewarding. I was able to outpace 996GT3s driven by equally good drivers, in spite of the fact that the 19 inch Michelin Sport cups give up a fair amount of grip when compared to the 18 inch versions. Note the 996GT3s I played with were as fast as I was in my 996 GT3 and all the cars were set up the same way.

I can now confidenly say that the 997 is quicker.

Comparing the two, the RS is far more confience inspiring in high speed turns. I suspect it has better aero and/or downforce. In sum I love it and I wil love it more when my 18 inch wheels arrive!

Best,

Not to start any kind of war here because both cars are awesome and we are really splitting hairs when comparing them. Having said that, I don't think you can give a fair assessment about the two yet as we haven't figured out the setup for the 997 GT-3 yet. There are a few of us here that are doing the expensive testing and tuning and in the next few months, I feel confident we will get the 7 dialed in. The 7 will be faster, it has to be or else Porsche will have egg on its face. Will the 7 be more fun or more rewarding? I doubt it. Both cars are fun and rewarding and let's face it, are the ultimate street/track toys. If being the fastest around the track is important, the 7 wins. If having fun is your goal and you don't care if you are a little slower, save money and get the 6.

What about staying married by chosing the 6 over the 7?
