Question Front rotor cracks?

I am looking at a 2004 GT3 which has had the CPO inspection performed by the seller. The car passed with flying colors however there was mention that the front rotors had "surface cracks". I was told by the owner that the car did not have any track, DE time on it at all. Thought that cracked front rotors was a good sign of track use...???

One thing I can say is that the Cross-drilled rotors do crack even at street driving.
Are you looking at the Red One?

i cannot say for sure, but would guess that my car was not tracked... no yellowing of porsche logos on calipers, original tire wear, etc... and my rotors, front and rear have surface cracks. I've looked for this detail on other cars and have yet to see one without them.

the problem is when the cracks run between holes..just subtract the cost of new rotors (doesn't sound like they are pccb) from what you are willing to pay and offer that...

Hey Chuck, that new avatar is:

1) a C6 Z06 just being lapped again
2) a C6 Z06 being passed at the previous turn
3) a plastic wannabe track car
4) all of the above

With only 5000 miles of street driving, my rotors also had cracks. The rotors also have a fairly deep lip for only 5000 miles, which to me, means the rotors wear fairly quickly. My buddy's GT3 with only 2500 street miles has similar wear on his rotors.

My guess is it's completely normal, and doesn't necessarily indicate track use.

It's totally normal and I have never seen a GT3 without cracked rotors! They crack with no track use but I will point out that the cracks are generally not as pronounced as the ones from track use.

To help prevent it down the road (and improve braking), Cup brake ducts and a mix of Pagid Black/Orange pads to increase rear brake bias work great.

NJ, wish it was all of the above...that is a C6R and was turning 1:41's...much faster than me on street tires (best 1:48.6)...I could outbrake him but that was it..he passed me when we got to the front straight...boohoo...

It was a ZO6 body with the 427 motor and had C6R badges. Saw it with the wheels off and it had all the special racing goodies underneath...lightweight "A" arms and huge brakes...he wasn't running slicks but did have "r" compounds...that's all I know...oh yeah...he must have pissed off someone with his agressive driving cuz he got banned...I didn't see him do anything ban worthy...

see for yourself (not the best pic). I know there is a HUGE difference I don't get passed by ZO6's

The car you saw WAS NOT a C6R.....The C6R destroyed the GT1 ALMS series as the Porsche 917/30 did to the Can am series....Came in 4th overall behind 4 LMP1 cars at Le Mans 2006.....Costs about $600K.
Also, you say that don't get passed by a C6 Z06???

Was it a road-legal car?

it has a plate on it....I know it wasn't a GT1 car...I have been to ALMS at Laguna for the last three years and have had very close looks at the 3 and 4 cars...obviously the car doesn't have the rear wing...but it does have the rear diffuser and the racing suspension and brake parts that I've not seen on C6 ZO6's...so I don't know if the owner put the badges on the car or if it came that way...can't you buy a road legal C6R?

There are no street legal C6R's ... This car would be very dangerous on the street. many years ago when I lived in Houston, I had a '93 Carrera Cup car that I would put plates on and take short jaunts on the street. In hindsight this was a very bad idea.. Almost wrecked it.
