Default Why always Pagids when chosing pads?

Please see the Carbotech thread...but I was wondering why Pagids are always chosen with our cars. Don't get me wrong, I have had no problems with my RS-14s all the way around and was going to go with the RS-19s up front but...

Synergy would like me to try the PFCs. I understand their committments and all but when testing their new cup car prior to the Rolex all of their drivers (Westbrook, Huisman and Leitz each preferred the PFC 97s over the pagids that were delivered on the car.)

I wonder whether the 97s will be enough on my heavier street GT3 especially without the ability to change bias. Perhaps the PFC 01s or should I just go with the Pagid 19s up front?

By the way, I bought the car from Jerseybean and he mentioned that Jon Groom Racing who had set the car up also suggested he switch to the PFC pads for various reasons.

PFC pads are great. This is what the BMW racing teams used to use. I used them on my race car with great results. If Synergy recommends them, it may be worth a shot. However, they do DUST like crazy.

There are choices besides Pagid. You have to determine your requirements and then check the characteristics of the pad material as specified by the manufacturer. As you guys said, it is wise to consult Porsche Racing teams about pad choices as they often test and use different ones.

Curious. Are the Cup cars delivered with the same Pagid pads as the street GT3s?

I remember GT3 nut making a comment about the type that are delivered on the cup car. I am really not sure but Greg, at Synergy, mentioned that the car came with RS-19s all the way around.

The problem with some of these alternatives is that they work fantastically, then you realise they've eaten chunks out your wheels. I'm all in favour of experimentation, but on someone elses car

the newer pfc and hawk compounds arent bad on wheels at all...i've run hawks and pfc's on my M3 race car...currently running pfc 01's and love them...i've been through many sets of hawk ht-10's, 14's, dtc-70's, and pfc 01's and all of my wheels still look brand new...

as far as carbotechs go, i ran them back before i was racing and they worked ok but they just didnt have an agressive enough bite for my taste (though i havent tried any of the lasted compounds)

i've also wondered why pagids are so popular among the porsche crowd...

I am not sure what comes on the Cup cars. I thought they were "P50", but not sure. The 996 street GT3 comes with "P90" pads, which are in fact painted yellow but they are NOT the RS19's which is commonly referred to as "yellows".

I was putting away my OEM street pads and noted that "Pagid" is branded on them. I didn't know Pagid made the OEM pads. Maybe that's why 95% of P-car owners go with Pagid aftermarket pads.

Yes Pagid P90. Was P90 stamped on the backing plate as well?

PFCs were recomended to me by GMG. One caveat they are hard on rotors.

As I knew Pagid made the OEM pads, I understood that would be a reason most would opt for them again.

I just wondered why you never hear much of anything mentioned about the other pads.

With Vic mentioning that GMG recommends them as does Synergy and Jon Groom Racing, that makes 3 racing organizations that have testified to their superiority over the Pagids.

Anyone know why?

Chris, you said it yourself... you have never had a problem with Pagid. A friend and I both longtime Pagid users decided to give PFC a try and both of us ended up losing our brakes and spinning our cars resulting in damage. I switched back to Pagid and won't try anything else. I run RS19 front and RS14 rear on my car which is upgraded to 05 GT3 rotors and calipers.
